TUI Cruises has changed the inaugural winter deployment of its new ship Mein Schiff Flow, moving the vessel from a planned 2026-27 Arabian Gulf season to sail from German homeports instead, citing geopolitical uncertainty in the region.

The 4,000-passenger ship will now operate Northern Europe-focused itineraries after a first summer season in the Mediterranean, with bookings for the revised winter program opening at the end of April.

Shift to German homeports as demand favors flight-free departures

TUI Cruises CEO Wybcke Meier said the redeployment also matches demand patterns in the company’s core market. “Germans like to travel a short distance to homeports to avoid flights,” Meier told Cruise Industry News.

Meier said TUI Cruises has seen the approach work in the past, pointing to operations from Bremerhaven. “We had a great experience with Mein Schiff 3 out of Bremerhaven doing long cruises to the Canaries and the Caribbean, and short cruises up to Norway,” she said. “And now we have a second ship, and we think it will work for very well for us.”

Meier also emphasized the appeal for first-time guests, saying, “We have many new to cruise customers and for them this makes it even easier.”

Winter 2026-27 schedule: Hamburg and Kiel, with Baltic Sea, Norway, and warmer options

After completing its Mediterranean summer season, Mein Schiff Flow is scheduled to begin its winter program with an October 2026 call in Hamburg. In early November, the ship is set to move to Kiel for Baltic Sea itineraries, before transitioning into sailings that include Norway.

In mid-December 2026, the ship is due to return to Hamburg for winter routes that include Western Europe and Norway. TUI Cruises’ program also features holiday-season sailings, including Christmas and New Year’s voyages reaching as far as Lisbon, as well as a longer Hamburg roundtrip sailing to the Canary Islands.

Sample sailings and published starting fares

TUI Cruises has published select starting prices for the new winter program (based on double occupancy) and said the fares include Mein Schiff Premium inclusive services. The line is also offering early-booking discounts on certain categories until May 31, 2026.

  • Seven-night “Beauties of the Baltic Sea” (Kiel roundtrip), Nov. 1-8, 2026: from €969 per person in an inside cabin, or from €1,199 per person in a balcony cabin, including a €100 early-booking discount available until May 31, 2026.
  • 11-night “Holidays in Western Europe” (Hamburg roundtrip), Dec. 23, 2026 to Jan. 3, 2027: from €1,849 per person in an interior cabin, or from €2,299 per person in a balcony cabin, including a €120 early-booking discount available until May 31, 2026.

Newbuild status: InTUItion class ship completes sea trials

Mein Schiff Flow is the second ship in TUI Cruises’ InTUItion class and is being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The ship is equipped with a dual-fuel propulsion system designed to operate on marine diesel and natural gas.

In February, the ship completed an extensive round of technical and nautical sea trials in the Mediterranean. TUI Cruises said the tests covered propulsion and maneuverability, engine performance, and key technical systems, along with stabilizers, anchoring systems, and safety-related equipment under real-world conditions.

Georgios Vagiannis, TUI Cruises’ director of newbuilds, said: “The Mein Schiff Flow fully convinced us during the sea trials,” adding that it demonstrated strong maneuverability and safety.

TUI Cruises said an additional sea trial is planned to test the LNG system, and the company has also stated it plans to use green e-/bio-LNG in the future to further reduce CO2 emissions.

Christening in Trieste with live acts, wellness programming, and culinary events

TUI Cruises has scheduled Mein Schiff Flow’s christening for June 20, 2026, in Trieste, Italy. The ceremony is set to take place as part of an inaugural program that includes a shorter pre-inaugural sailing from and to Trieste from June 14-17 and an eight-day christening voyage later in June.

For the christening voyage, TUI Cruises said the onboard concept will incorporate live acts, music, art, and movement reflecting the ship’s “Flow” name across multiple days and venues. The program is set to include yoga and mindfulness sessions with Berenice Seiss and Coco Achinger, and large-scale onboard artwork created by Christian Awe.

The culinary and beverage lineup is set to include Michelin-starred chef Tim Raue and bartender Linh Nguyen, plus chocolate workshops led by Jörg Wagner of the Wagner chocolate manufactory. Entertainment plans include a live performance by Irish singer and guitarist Rea Garvey on June 19, followed by German singer-songwriter Tim Bendzko on June 20. TUI Cruises has also tied events to early sailings, including Lady Amarena by Fabbri1905, which the line described as an international competition exclusively for female bartenders.

Arabian Gulf winter season sees wider itinerary changes across cruise lines

TUI Cruises’ decision comes as multiple brands adjust 2026-27 Arabian Gulf plans. MSC said it canceled its 2026-27 season in the region and repositioned MSC World Europa to the Southern Caribbean, while also redeploying MSC Seaview to South America for that winter.

Explora said it canceled Explora II’s 2026-27 Middle East winter season and will move the ship to Europe, citing a desire to provide clarity for guests and travel advisors. Costa said it canceled plans for winter 2026-27 in the Middle East due to uncertainty in the regional outlook, repositioning Costa Smeralda to the Canary Islands and shifting Costa Pacifica to new Mediterranean itineraries. AIDA also canceled its 2026-27 Arabian Gulf program, saying the aim was to provide certainty given that conditions cannot be reliably predicted for the foreseeable future; AIDAprima will instead sail in the Canary Islands and Northern Europe that winter.

Other operators have maintained schedules in the region. Celestyal is planning to operate Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey in the Arabian Gulf between late November and mid-March, with itineraries calling in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Oman. Aroya is scheduled to return to the Arabian Gulf in 2026-27, with seven-night itineraries planned between January and March 2027.
