Azamara Journey Set for November 2028 Refurbishment
Unlike Azamara Quest, Journey’s renovation will not add a Penthouse Deck or its 12 suites; it will include a redesigned Discoveries Restaurant and Chef’s Table.
Azamara Cruises will renovate Azamara Journey during a two-week drydock from Nov. 16 to Nov. 30, 2028, as part of its Azamara Forward program. The work will cover dining and entertainment venues, staterooms, suites and public spaces.
Journey is scheduled to follow Azamara Quest and Azamara Onward in the four-ship refurbishment program. Its renovation will not include the new Penthouse Deck and its 12 suites, which will remain exclusive to Quest.
“Azamara Forward allows us to thoughtfully refresh our ships,” said Dondra Ritzenthaler, CEO of Azamara Cruises. She said the program would create “inviting spaces for guests to connect, enjoy exceptional dining and entertainment, and feel at home between the incredible destinations they discover with us.”
The dining changes include a redesign of Discoveries Restaurant and a dedicated Chef’s Table experience. Journey will also receive a new Atlas Bar offering, alongside work on its other social spaces. The Cabaret Lounge is scheduled for a transformation, while the Sanctum Spa will undergo a complete refresh.
Built in 2000 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, the 30,277-gross-ton Journey accommodates 694 passengers at double occupancy. The R-class vessel originally entered service as R Six before becoming Azamara Journey.
The wider renovation schedule begins with Quest’s drydock in November 2026. Its first sailing with the completed enhancements is scheduled to depart Dec. 18 that year. Onward is due to enter drydock in November 2027. Azamara Pursuit is also included in Azamara Forward, but the line has not yet announced its renovation schedule.
Journey’s first post-refit voyage will depart on the day the drydock ends, sailing a 12-night Greece and Egypt itinerary round trip from Athens. Azamara plans to release further sailing details and booking availability in the coming weeks as it opens the deployment for sale.
