Holland America Opens Bookings for Refitted Oosterdam Cruises

Delivered in 2003, the 1,964-passenger Oosterdam will undergo its refurbishment in Marseille, adding Solo Verandah accommodations and Grand Dutch Cafe.

Holland America Line has opened bookings for five newly added Oosterdam voyages spanning the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Caribbean after the ship’s Holland America Evolution refurbishment. The first departure is a 10-day Adriatic Antiquities cruise from Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, to Trieste, Italy, on October 31, 2027.

The new inventory follows a decision to advance Oosterdam’s transformation by five weeks. The ship will be the first completed under the approximately $500 million, six-ship modernization program, which Holland America describes as its largest fleet investment in 153 years.

Holland America cancelled several previously published sailings between September 11 and December 9, 2027, to fit the revised drydock schedule. The line is contacting affected passengers and travel advisors directly with rebooking options.

Passengers booked on the originally scheduled inaugural voyage and first transatlantic crossing in December can transfer to the corresponding replacement departures.

“One of the great joys of travel is being among the first to discover something new, and these voyages give guests that opportunity aboard Oosterdam,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line.

From the Adriatic to Fort Lauderdale

The opening itinerary includes visits to Pompeii and Sicily, Corfu in Greece, Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor and Croatia’s Adriatic coast.

An 11-day Adriatic Antiquities: Croatia, Greek Isles & Istanbul voyage departs Trieste on November 10, 2027, and finishes in Piraeus, the port for Athens. Next comes the seven-day Mediterranean Splendor: Greek Isles & Malta sailing, leaving Piraeus on November 21 and ending in Barcelona, Spain.

Oosterdam then departs Barcelona on November 28 for the 13-day Cultural Crossing: Spain & Gibraltar voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The final newly added departure is an 11-day Eastern Caribbean: Windward & Leeward Islands cruise, sailing roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale on December 11. That voyage begins the transformed ship’s Caribbean season. The booking announcement did not include starting fares for the new sailings.

Inside the Evolution overhaul

The refurbishment will take place in Marseille, France. Delivered in 2003, the 82,305-gross-ton Oosterdam has a listed passenger capacity of 1,964 before the Evolution work.

The overhaul will introduce purpose-built Solo Verandah accommodations for single travelers, forward-facing Bridgeview Suites and Vista Suites. The Pinnacle Suite will also be redesigned, while existing accommodations and public areas receive updates.

Grand Dutch Cafe will be added, and Ocean Bar will receive a new design. Both venues are part of the program’s plan to bring features associated with Holland America’s newer Pinnacle Class ships to the vessels selected for modernization.

Across the program, planned work includes additional accommodations and increased passenger capacity, alongside changes to dining venues, lounges and other public spaces.

The other ships covered by Evolution are the Vista Class vessels Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam, plus the Signature Class ships Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam. Zuiderdam is expected to be the next ship transformed, in spring 2028, with the remaining vessels to follow afterward.
