Disney Cruise Line Accelerates 13-Ship Fleet Plan to 2030

Disney Cruise Line has accelerated two planned ship debuts, putting its 13-ship fleet target on course for completion by the end of 2030, one year earlier than previously scheduled. The revised timeline in The Walt Disney Company's fiscal third-quarter materials moves Ship 12 into late 2029 and Ship 13 into late 2030.

The 2029 schedule would be the first time Disney Cruise Line introduces more than one ship in a calendar year. The line expanded from five ships to eight with Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, raising current published fleet capacity to about 30,626 passengers.

Revised schedule pulls Ship 12 into 2029

Disney's 2024 plan called for the fleet to reach 13 ships by 2031. Under the earlier sequence, three smaller-class ships were planned for 2029, 2030 and 2031. The updated schedule keeps Ship 11 in 2029, advances Ship 12 to late 2029 and advances Ship 13 to late 2030.

A fifth Wish-class vessel is also due in 2029, to be operated by Oriental Land Co., the owner and operator of Tokyo Disney Resort. The unnamed ship is scheduled for delivery in late 2028 and is expected to begin sailing from Japanese ports in early 2029. It is planned as the first of multiple ships for OLC.

Disney Cruise Line Japan will operate through a partnership between OLC and The Walt Disney Company. The NYK Group will serve as ship manager and business consultant.

Disney has not named the new ships

Disney has not named Ships 11, 12 and 13 or disclosed full class details. The line has described the ships as smaller than its Wish-class vessels and between the Magic and Dream classes in size. The new design is estimated at approximately 105,000 gross tons and about 3,000 guests at maximum occupancy.

For scale, the current active fleet ranges from the roughly 2,700-guest Disney Magic and Disney Wonder to Disney Adventure, which is published at up to 6,700 guests. The Wish-class ships sit around 4,000 guests and roughly 140,000 gross tons.

Cruise capacity was already rising in fiscal Q3

Fiscal Q3 was Disney's first full quarter with Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure in service. Together, the ships increased stateroom capacity "by approximately 50% compared to the prior-year quarter," Disney said in its shareholder letter.

The Walt Disney Company's Experiences segment, which includes parks and Disney Cruise Line, reported a 10% revenue increase in fiscal Q3. Global guests across the segment rose 4%, and Disney said it remained encouraged by cruise occupancy and forward bookings. Companywide, Disney reported net income of $2.8 billion on revenue of $22.7 billion for the quarter.

Cruise Industry News' 2026 Annual Report estimated the eight-ship line's annual guest capacity at 1.7 million after Disney Adventure entered service from Singapore earlier this year.

Disney Believe remains the next named delivery

Disney Believe is expected to debut in late 2027. The fourth Wish-class ship is under construction at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, where Natacha Rafalski, president of Disney Signature Experiences, recently visited with Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams.

"It's incredible to see the ship at this stage in the building process," Rafalski wrote on LinkedIn after sharing photos from the yard visit, including views of the ship's funnel and newly fabricated steel.

Disney has not opened bookings or announced itineraries for Disney Believe. More details are scheduled for an Oct. 7, 2026 livestream. Disney is also planning a one-night Believe-inspired performance featuring Susan Egan for passengers on Disney Wish's Oct. 5 four-night Bahamas sailing from Port Canaveral.
