Westerdam Arrives in Tokyo for Fall Japan Cruise Season
Built by Fincantieri in 2004, the Vista-class Westerdam accommodates about 1,916 passengers and is scheduled for an Evolution program refit with a Grand Dutch Cafe.
Holland America Line’s Westerdam arrived in Tokyo on September 27, 2026, beginning its fall deployment in Japan after a summer in Alaska. The ship’s first sailing in the region is a 14-night voyage around Honshu.
The Japan program continues through early November, when Westerdam shifts to Southeast Asia itineraries operating between Hong Kong and Singapore.
The opening cruise sails roundtrip from Tokyo. Its 10 destinations include Japanese calls at Kobe, Kochi, Toyama and Sakata, with Busan as the itinerary’s South Korean stop.
Westerdam reached Japan on a 13-night transpacific repositioning cruise from Vancouver. That voyage included Ketchikan in Alaska before crossing to Japan for calls at Kushiro and Aomori ahead of the Tokyo arrival.
In early 2027, the ship is scheduled to sail Holland America’s “Coral Triangle & Great Barrier Reef” itinerary, taking it to Australia and the South Pacific. Another series of Japan cruises follows in the spring, before a repositioning voyage back to North America. The vessel’s next Alaska deployment begins in mid-April 2027, as part of Holland America’s six-ship season in the region.
Built in 2004 by Fincantieri at Marghera, Italy, the Vista-class Westerdam measures 81,769 gross tons and accommodates approximately 1,916 passengers at double occupancy. The ship underwent a refurbishment in 2017 and is now among the vessels scheduled for a major refit under Holland America’s Evolution program.
That program includes improvements to public spaces and existing cabins, along with the addition of the Grand Dutch Cafe, previously offered on the line’s newer ships. Oosterdam and Zuiderdam are scheduled to receive the first two Evolution refits, planned for 2027 and 2028, and will also gain new single balcony staterooms.
Holland America has not yet announced a drydock date for Westerdam.
