Riga to Host Cruise Baltic Summit as Port Seeks More Calls
The agenda includes shore-power development and passenger-behavior research, with sessions on multigenerational travel and crew experiences in the passenger journey.
Riga will host the Cruise Baltic Summit on October 6 and 7 at the Tallink Hotel Riga, bringing together cruise line representatives, Baltic Sea ports and cruise destinations. A familiarization trip before the conference will give visiting cruise line representatives a firsthand look at the Latvian capital’s passenger attractions.
Operators are developing and negotiating schedules that extend through 2029 and 2030. The summit will also include one-to-one meetings in which cruise companies sit down with ports and destinations to discuss cooperation and plans for the upcoming season.
Participating companies include Disney Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Ambassador Cruise Line and Carnival Maritime. Representatives from Explora Journeys, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Oceania Cruises and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection will also attend. The summit announcement did not include comments from participating cruise line executives.
The Freeport of Riga Authority and Riga Investment and Tourism Agency are organizing the familiarization visit. Excursions will introduce the delegation to Riga’s tourism offering as the port seeks future ship calls.
Shore power and passenger research
The conference agenda includes shore-power development across the Baltic Sea region, alongside discussions of cruise industry strategic goals. Cruise Baltic will also review its work to date and its future plans.
Passenger behavior research and changing cruise travel patterns form another part of the program. Sessions will examine multigenerational travel and the effect of crew experiences on the passenger journey.
Riga’s passenger record and Baltic ties
The Port of Riga has received 150,000 cruise passengers during the 2026 season, the first time it has reached that total in a single year. That exceeds the previous annual record set in 2025, when the port handled 85 cruise ships and 115,500 passengers.
Riga joined Cruise Baltic in 2023. The association now brings together 31 ports and destinations across the Baltic Sea region, providing a network for cooperation with cruise lines, professional exchanges and joint destination marketing.
Riga’s cruise season is scheduled to continue until late December. The port projects that its full-year passenger total will reach approximately 160,000.
