Norwegian’s 50%-Off Black Friday Sale Leaves Out the Starting Fares

Norwegian Cruise Line is advertising 50% off cruise fares for Black Friday, but its announcement doesn’t include a single starting price. For a campaign aimed partly at first-time cruisers, I’d put a clear sample fare ahead of a headline discount. A percentage doesn’t tell someone what their first cruise will cost.

The promotion is broad. It covers all itineraries across the fleet, includes the Free at Sea package and reaches as far ahead as Norwegian Aura’s scheduled 2027 debut and Norwegian Bella’s arrival in 2028. Nearly 350 destinations feature, spanning Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean and the Bahamas. The announcement does not specify a booking deadline, either.

NCL is pitching three- and four-day Bahamas sailings to newcomers. “Some travelers still have an outdated idea of what cruising is, and we love proving them wrong,” said Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

What comes with the headline discount

Beyond the advertised fare reduction, selected departures and stateroom categories offer prepaid gratuities at no charge or savings of up to $1,000. Those bonuses are not available on every booking. Neither is the offer of free cruise fares for children on selected sailings.

Free at Sea combines an unlimited open bar, specialty dining, internet access and shore-excursion credits. NCL values the package at more than $2,000, although the benefits depend on the sailing and applicable terms.

The package generally includes 150 minutes of Wi-Fi per guest, not unlimited internet, and a $50 shore-excursion credit per port applied to the first guest’s reservation. The number of specialty dining meals varies by voyage length.

The beverage package excludes bottled water, Starbucks purchases, minibar items and drinks above its price limit. Benefits generally must be selected before departure and are non-transferable.

These are useful inclusions for passengers who will use them. But I’d judge the package by the meals, drinks and excursions I actually wanted, rather than treating NCL’s $2,000 valuation as money automatically saved.

Alaska, Europe and a more accessible private island

The promoted Alaska options include departures from Seattle next summer aboard Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss. Norwegian Jade will sail from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Whittier, Alaska.

In Europe, NCL plans to deploy nine ships during 2027 across the Mediterranean, Greek Isles and Northern Europe, with embarkation ports including Barcelona, Lisbon and Civitavecchia.

Great Stirrup Cay also gets a prominent place in the campaign following additions including Great Tides Waterpark, the Great Life Lagoon pool area and the adults-only Vibe Shore Club. The waterpark has 19 waterslides, cliff-jumping attractions and the Wandering River. The lagoon includes two swim-up bars.

The more practical improvement is the two-berth pier. Norwegian Getaway became the first ship to dock directly at the Bahamas private island in December 2025, ending its exclusive reliance on tender boats.

NCL is also planning for more visitors. On the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO John Chidsey said revised itineraries had lifted projected 2027 island traffic to approximately 1.4 million guests, up from an earlier forecast of 1.2 million. The additional 200,000 guests stem from itinerary-planning changes covering 2027 and 2028.

The sale reaches into the next two ship launches

Aura’s anticipated early delivery has enabled two additional inaugural Mediterranean departures: a 10-day voyage from Trieste to Athens on May 2, 2027, and a nine-day return voyage departing May 12. Across the two itineraries, calls include ports in Croatia, Montenegro and the Greek Isles.

The ship will introduce Tamara, NCL’s first specialty restaurant focused on Indian cuisine, alongside an Indulge Food Hall with nine food stations. Ocean Heights, its multideck outdoor complex, will include waterslides, a ropes course and an obstacle course.

After its Mediterranean sailings and Atlantic crossing, Aura is scheduled to operate seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami between June and October 2027, followed by Western Caribbean voyages for winter 2027/28. Bella’s maiden voyage is scheduled for May 2, 2028, from Valletta to Barcelona.

Including those departures gives passengers a substantial range of cruises to consider. But a sales announcement detailed enough to name a maiden voyage in 2028 should also be able to show a newcomer what that short Bahamas cruise will cost.
