Mein Schiff 3 Returns to Service After Rotterdam Drydock

TUI Cruises replaced about twelve thousand five hundred square meters of carpet on Mein Schiff 3, with part of the removed material processed into recycled underlay for reuse onboard.

TUI Cruises has returned Mein Schiff 3 to service after a two-week drydock at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, with the ship now bound for Norwegian itineraries from Bremerhaven. The May 6 update detailed a guest-facing refurbishment that covered suites, public venues, carpeting, artwork and entertainment technology.

The work focused on the 2,506-passenger ship’s hotel product. Mein Schiff 3 entered service in 2014 as TUI Cruises’ first newbuild and completed 10 years in service in 2024.

The two themed suites onboard, the Godparent Suite and the Captain’s Suite, were modernized during the Rotterdam stay. Public areas were also refreshed, including the Diamond Bar and the Cafe Lounge, which offers all-day breakfast.

TUI Cruises also replaced about 12,500 square meters of carpet across the ship. Part of the removed material is being processed into recycled underlay for reuse onboard, according to the company. Artwork throughout the vessel was updated as part of the project.

The drydock included entertainment and media upgrades. Speaker management systems were modernized, broadcast and satellite technology was serviced, and the theater received a new high-resolution LED wall and LED moving lights for onboard productions.

Mein Schiff 3 is a roughly 99,700-gross-ton ship with 15 decks, about 1,000 crew and 1,253 cabins. The vessel was built at Turku, Finland, and is now the oldest ship in TUI Cruises’ eight-ship in-service Mein Schiff fleet.

Damen’s Rotterdam repair operation is based in Schiedam in the Port of Rotterdam. TUI Cruises did not disclose the cost of the work or include an executive comment with the refurbishment announcement.
