LTH Baas Refurbishes Five Royal Caribbean Group Ships in Drydock

Onboard teams of up to 150 workers coordinated concurrent trades within limited drydock windows on Ovation of the Seas, Star of the Seas and three other vessels.

Tallinn-based LTH Baas completed interior refurbishment projects covering 111 staterooms on five Royal Caribbean Group ships during the first six months of the year. The vessels were Ovation of the Seas, Star of the Seas, Celebrity Solstice, Mariner of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas.

The contractor coordinated as many as 150 workers onboard during drydock, bringing several trades together to complete concurrent tasks within a limited work window. LTH Baas said the projects required extensive preparation before onboard work could proceed, citing material procurement, technical coordination and worldwide logistics planning as essential to keeping the work on schedule.

Beyond guest accommodation, the refurbishment covered card and conference rooms, lobbies and corridors. Technical and other supporting work was also included.

The company also described the constraints of refurbishing an operating cruise ship: restricted access, complicated onboard logistics and a requirement to work quietly. It said close cooperation among the parties involved was necessary to maintain workmanship standards while limiting disruption to vessel operations.
