Holland America’s Zuiderdam Begins 35-Night Voyage of the Vikings
The cruise is part of Holland America's Legendary Voyages series, with an overnight in Rotterdam and less-visited calls such as Red Bay, Paamiut and Husavik.
Holland America Line’s 2002-built Zuiderdam has sailed from Boston on a 35-night “Voyage of the Vikings” itinerary, beginning a North Atlantic sailing scheduled to end back in Boston on Aug. 20, 2026. The 82,305-ton ship is due to call in Canada and New England, Greenland, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and the Netherlands during the 20-destination cruise.
The cruise is part of Holland America’s Legendary Voyages series, the line’s longer destination-focused sailings that generally run 25 to 59 days. The itinerary includes an overnight call in Rotterdam, along with less-visited ports including Red Bay, Paamiut, Husavik and Douglas in the Isle of Man.
Where Zuiderdam sails after the Vikings voyage
After the roundtrip Boston voyage, Zuiderdam is scheduled to remain in Canada and New England through late October, operating cruises between Boston and Quebec City. Before year-end, Holland America plans a series of seven- to 10-night Caribbean cruises from PortMiami.
In early 2027, the ship is scheduled to reposition to the West Coast for Mexican Riviera and Baja Peninsula itineraries.
Evolution refit will add cabins and Grand Dutch Cafe
Holland America also has confirmed Zuiderdam as the second ship in its Evolution refit program, following Oosterdam. The $500 million-plus, multiyear project covers six ships: the Vista-class Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam, plus the Signature-class Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam.
For Zuiderdam, the passenger-facing work includes a redesigned Pinnacle Suite, two Bridgeview Suites above the bridge, 14 Vista Suites and 32 Solo Verandah staterooms. The ship also will receive refreshed accommodations and a Grand Dutch Cafe, a venue currently found on Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam that serves complimentary Dutch snacks alongside paid specialty coffees, Dutch beers and spirits.
“We’ve seen strong interest in our Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandahs on Oosterdam,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line. “We’re excited to make these new accommodations available on Zuiderdam.”
Bodensteiner has also said Evolution includes technical investments in power management, propulsion, automation, structural maintenance and critical equipment, with Fincantieri carrying out the refits. Oosterdam is scheduled to debut the first phase of the program in fall 2027, while Holland America has not announced refit dates for Westerdam, Noordam, Eurodam or Nieuw Amsterdam.
Bookings for Zuiderdam voyages after its Evolution work are scheduled to open July 30, 2026; Bodensteiner said more itinerary details would be released “very soon.”
