Disney Wonder Completes 100 Upgrades in Victoria Dry Dock

At Edge, Disney Wonder's tween venue, a new color palette and modular elements allow the space to adapt for activities, while Imagineers refreshed its Donald Duck and Huey figures.

Disney Cruise Line has completed more than 100 projects aboard Disney Wonder during a 14-day dry dock in August 2026 at Seaspan Victoria Shipyards in Victoria, British Columbia. The refurbishment combined updates to passenger and crew spaces with a new hull coating and routine safety maintenance.

The roughly 83,000-gross-ton ship entered service in 1999 as Disney’s second cruise vessel and can accommodate up to about 2,700 passengers.

At Edge, the dedicated tween venue, Disney introduced a different color palette and modular elements that allow the space to be adapted for different activities. Similar changes have been made to the clubs aboard Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy.

Crews installed more than 12 miles of replacement carpet, including a new design outside the Walt Disney Theater. Imagineers also refreshed and reinstalled the stern-mounted figures depicting Donald Duck and his nephew Huey, whose prank is the subject of the display.

“At Disney Cruise Line, every enhancement we make begins with a single question: How can we make the guest experience better?” said Tracy Wilson, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line Operations.

Below the waterline and behind the scenes

The ship received a hull coating covering an area equivalent to 10 football fields. Disney says the advanced coating supports its environmental objectives and is intended to improve operating performance. Disney Magic has also received an advanced hull coating.

Technical work included maintenance on the ship’s emergency lifeboats. The refurbishment also extended into areas used by employees, including a redesigned crew dining venue.

Nearly 1,000 crew members and cast members contributed to the project. Marine and technical teams coordinated operational work, while designers, Imagineers and craftspeople handled onboard improvements during an around-the-clock schedule.

Disney says its ships typically undergo dry dock every five years, with planning beginning years before the yard period. Teams review onboard spaces to identify maintenance needs.

Alexis Cummins, creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, said that process includes “responding to how guests use areas of the ships.” Her team also considers how to incorporate new storytelling into existing spaces.

The Wonder project follows recent refurbishment work on Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy. Beyond the shared youth-club changes, Fantasy received Ramone’s Cantina, a Cars-themed quick-service restaurant, along with changes to Senses Spa & Salon and the new Fantasia-inspired Fantasy Tower Suite.

Fantasy’s technical work included installation of a new bulbous bow. Disney says that change, like the hull treatments on its older vessels, is intended to improve performance and reduce environmental impact.

Disney Wonder and Disney Magic are scheduled to sail from San Diego during the fall 2027 and spring 2028 seasons. Bookings for those West Coast departures are already open.
