Carnival to Offer Free Miami Airport Transfers for Celebration Guests
A new Carnival Cruise Line pilot will offer free Miami International Airport transfers for Carnival Celebration passengers on selected dates beginning in October 2026.
PortMiami is introducing new and expanded traffic measures for its 2026-27 cruise season, which will include 81 days with seven to 10 ships in port simultaneously. Miami-Dade County announced the plan on October 16, 2026, covering terminal access, airport transfers and congestion management around the seaport and downtown Miami.
The port welcomed its 10-millionth cruise passenger of the fiscal year in September 2026. It handled 8,564,225 passengers in fiscal 2025, a 4.02% increase from 8,233,056 the previous year.
“These improvements help us reduce congestion, enhance safety and strengthen the overall journey from curb to cruise,” said PortMiami Director and CEO Jonathan Daniels.
Getting to the ship
A new pilot with Carnival Cruise Line will provide free transfers to Miami International Airport for Carnival Celebration passengers on selected dates, beginning in October 2026. PortMiami will also continue its existing airport shuttle program with Royal Caribbean Group for passengers on selected Icon of the Seas sailings.
For arriving passengers, the port is asking travelers to keep to their assigned embarkation times and choose their entrance according to their departure terminal. Cruise lines, taxi operators, rideshare companies and passenger motor carriers will help distribute the directions in coordination with the PortMiami Tunnel and other partners.
For terminals AA, A, B, C and D, the recommended entrance is the PortMiami Tunnel. Travelers bound for terminals E, F, G, J or V should use the PortMiami Bridge.
Taxi staging instructions follow the same geographic split: drivers serving the staging area opposite Terminal C should take the tunnel and park in Lot 1, while those using the area opposite Terminal E should take the bridge and park in Lot 2. Rideshare vehicles and passenger motor carriers should reach their staging areas through the tunnel.
The port and its partners will share two passenger-information videos, titled “Arrive at Your Embarkation Time” and “Choosing the Right Entrance,” on their social media accounts. PortMiami has not given a release date.
Keeping downtown moving
PortMiami will continue working with GridMatrix, a winner of the Miami-Dade Innovation Authority’s Public Innovation Challenge pilot program, to monitor congestion using AI-powered computer vision. The port says the technology will help anticipate bottlenecks and guide traffic-management decisions.
GridMatrix’s platform can process feeds from existing cameras and other sensors to measure vehicle queues, traffic volumes and travel times. It can also detect stopped vehicles, crashes and wrong-way driving.
On selected dates, personnel from PortMiami, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the City of Miami Police Department will help direct traffic along Biscayne Boulevard and nearby downtown streets. The port will also continue routing traffic over cargo roadways to reduce pressure on downtown roads and surrounding highways, including I-395.
In March 2026, Carnival Cruise Line warned guests of potential delays from heavy passenger traffic and construction near the port.
Downtown, the port is coordinating with the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Miami, along with Kaseya Center. The U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Biscayne Bay Pilots Association helped develop the broader plan.
MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages also contributed, alongside Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Group. Hotel and tourism organizations, ground transportation providers and representatives of nearby island communities participated as well.
“PortMiami is one of our greatest economic engines and ensuring its smooth and efficient operation is essential for residents, visitors and businesses alike,” said Miami-Dade County District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, chairwoman of the Aviation and Seaport Committee.
The season’s cruise schedule includes Explora III and Scenic Eclipse in October 2026, followed by Norwegian Aura in June 2027. Royal Caribbean’s Hero of the Seas is scheduled for August 2027.
