Carnival Legend Repositions to Civitavecchia for Med Cruises
Before leaving Dover, Carnival Legend hosted Carnival’s first solar eclipse cruise, with guests viewing just under two minutes of totality off northern Spain on August 12, 2026.
Carnival Legend has begun a 12-night repositioning voyage from Dover to Civitavecchia, shifting from its Northern Europe deployment to a five-cruise Mediterranean program from the port near Rome. The ship will remain in the region until early November, when it starts a 15-night trans-Atlantic crossing to Tampa.
Departing in late August, the one-way voyage is visiting destinations in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Its calls include Le Havre, Lisbon and Malaga before arrival in Civitavecchia.
Eastern Mediterranean cruises from Civitavecchia
From Civitavecchia, Carnival Legend will operate nine- to 12-night itineraries covering the Greek Islands, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey. Scheduled ports include Mykonos, Kavala, Corfu, Naples, Dubrovnik and Kusadasi. The program also includes calls of up to 13 hours in Istanbul and scenic cruising in Montenegro.
The 2002-built Spirit-class ship is 88,500 gross tons and carries 2,134 guests at double occupancy. It is 963 feet long and has 1,062 guest staterooms.
Dover season included Carnival’s first eclipse cruise
Before the repositioning voyage, Carnival Legend operated a summer series from Dover to Northern Europe. That deployment included Carnival Cruise Line’s first solar eclipse cruise, an 11-night Carnival Journeys sailing that departed Aug. 9, 2026.
Guests viewed the Aug. 12 total solar eclipse while the ship sailed off northern Spain in the path of totality. The period of darkness lasted just under two minutes. Viewing glasses were distributed to passengers on the outer decks. Carnival also scheduled eclipse-themed entertainment, beverages and other onboard activities during the voyage.
A subsequent 10-night British Isles itinerary called at seven destinations across Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Atlantic crossing leads into Tampa season
After its Civitavecchia program, Carnival Legend will sail to Tampa on a 15-night trans-Atlantic itinerary in early November. The crossing includes visits to Spain, the United Kingdom and Bermuda.
The ship’s Tampa winter season begins in mid-November, with five- to eight-night cruises serving Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Belize and Jamaica. Ports in the program include Cozumel, George Town, Belize City and Montego Bay.
Carnival Legend is scheduled to reposition to the West Coast in April 2027 for a summer season in Alaska and Canada. Carnival’s European deployment will expand to two ships that summer, with Carnival Sunshine joining Carnival Miracle for itineraries in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and North Africa. The program will include Carnival’s first visits to Morocco and Tunisia, with calls at Tangier and Tunis.
