Aman at Sea Names Ertan Vasvi Captain of Amangati

Before taking command of Amangati, Vasvi led shoreside deck, nautical and expedition work for Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit during construction in Genoa.

Aman at Sea has appointed Ertan Vasvi captain of Amangati, its first ship, ahead of the 94-guest yacht’s scheduled departure from Palma de Mallorca on May 7, 2027. He joins during the final phase of construction and will take responsibility for all nautical and marine operations.

Vasvi will work with the shoreside team through completion at T. Mariotti in Genoa, assemble and train the deck and bridge teams, and remain in command through the inaugural season. His experience includes overseeing nautical operations during the construction and delivery of Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit at the same yard.

“Amangati occupies a space that has not existed before, between traditional cruising and a private superyacht charter,” Vasvi said. He added that the operating model “asks something different of a crew.”

Experience from construction to command

Vasvi joined Seabourn as staff captain in 2018. Beginning in 2021, he spent two years in Genoa leading shoreside work covering deck, nautical and expedition operations for the two newbuilds. He also oversaw their inaugural operations. He has held command since 2023.

His cruise career began at Silversea in 2009, where he worked as officer of the watch and safety officer before becoming staff captain. His assignments covered the line’s expedition and classic fleets, with responsibility for nautical and deck operations. He holds a master’s degree from the Nautical Academy at Bulgaria’s Technical University of Varna.

The 23,000-gross-ton Amangati is being developed through a joint venture between Aman and Cruise Saudi. Plans call for approximately 207 crew and 47 ocean-facing guest suites, each with a private terrace.

Inaugural Mediterranean and Caribbean schedule

Amangati will begin operations in the Mediterranean before starting its first Caribbean season in autumn 2027. Aman at Sea has also extended that deployment into March 2028, adding 12 itineraries lasting five to eight nights to the autumn sailings announced in June.

The additions bring calls in the Dominican Republic, Martinique, Guadeloupe and the Grenadines into the program. Greater Antilles voyages will visit Samana, Cap Cana and La Romana, while Windward Islands departures from St. John’s, Antigua, and Bridgetown, Barbados, will include Saint-Pierre, Marie-Galante and Bequia.

Other routes cover the Leeward Islands and the Dutch Caribbean. The itinerary program includes late departures and overnight calls, with a preference for anchoring over berthing. Cultural, culinary and naturalist-led shore experiences are planned, with further details still to be announced.

Four additional Mediterranean voyages have also opened for reservations ahead of the Caribbean deployment. Running from October 10 through November 8, 2027, the six- to eight-night sailings cover routes through the Peloponnese, Dubrovnik and Kotor, followed by Italian coastal destinations before heading west to Malaga.

Amangati is scheduled to depart St. John’s on March 20, 2028, for its return to Europe. The 11-night passage will call at Philipsburg and Gustavia before reaching Funchal, Madeira.
