Viking to Launch First Chinese-Language Northern Europe Cruises

Viking will launch Chinese-language ocean cruises in Northern Europe in April 2027, adding two regional itineraries for Chinese-speaking guests. The company said the departures will be the cruise industry’s first Northern Europe voyages designed specifically for that market.

The plan extends a China program that has carried more than 100,000 Chinese guests and follows the scheduled launch of Chinese-language Mediterranean cruises on Viking Yidun. Viking linked the expansion to rising Chinese demand for slower-paced, more immersive overseas holidays.

Northern Europe program adds Nordic and Atlantic routes

The Northern Europe launch includes a 15-day voyage from Oslo to Stockholm, with three Nordic capitals, Norwegian fjords, Berlin and Hanseatic-route destinations. A 14-day Lisbon-to-Oslo itinerary will sail along Europe’s Atlantic coast.

Viking China also plans land-tour extensions in Oslo, Stockholm and Reykjavik. No starting fares were disclosed, and Viking did not include an executive comment with the itinerary details.

Published Viking Nordic Discovery departures for 2027 list a Classic Journey between Oslo and Stockholm in both directions. Oslo-to-Stockholm sailings are scheduled for April 22, June 17, July 15 and Aug. 12; Stockholm-to-Oslo sailings are scheduled for May 6, June 3, July 29 and Aug. 26.

The 15-day Viking Nordic Discovery Extended Journey has one listed departure in each direction: May 20 from Oslo to Stockholm and July 1 from Stockholm to Oslo.

Viking Yidun begins Mediterranean sailings in 2026

Viking Yidun is scheduled to begin its first Mediterranean season in August 2026. The season runs through March 2027. The China-market product includes Chinese-language ship signage and entertainment, hotel services and shore assistance, plus Chinese electrical outlets, kettles and Chinese and Western dining.

The Mediterranean program covers eight- to 22-day regional voyages across Western and Eastern Mediterranean ports in nine countries: Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, France, Monaco, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia. Before that season starts, Viking Yidun is completing a 60-day transcontinental sailing that left Shanghai in early June and is due to arrive in Barcelona in early August.

Viking’s China-market program also includes coastal ocean cruises on Viking Yidun between Shanghai and Hong Kong/Shenzhen and other Chinese ports through its China Merchants partnership for China-flagged domestic and coastal operations.

After the first Mediterranean season, Viking Yidun is slated to continue Chinese-language Mediterranean voyages during winter 2027 and offer more than 10 combined ocean voyages. One future itinerary named by Viking is a 60-day Athens-to-Stockholm journey covering 18 countries and 40 cities.
