Viking Takes Delivery of Viking Rota for European River Cruises

Built by Neptun Werft in Rostock, Germany, Viking Rota has 95 staterooms and 53 crew, with an Aquavit Terrace offering indoor and outdoor seating.

Viking has taken delivery of Viking Rota, a 190-guest river ship assigned to itineraries on Europe’s Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. The vessel is the latest addition to the company’s Longship fleet.

Viking’s committed orderbook calls for another 18 river ships to be delivered by 2028. The company expects its river fleet to total 114 vessels that year.

“As interest in river travel continues to grow, we remain focused on creating more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort,” said Leah Talactac, president and chief executive officer of Viking.

Rota will sail between Basel and Amsterdam, Budapest and Amsterdam, and Budapest and Passau, along with sailings that begin and end in Amsterdam. Itineraries include Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Danube Waltz and Tulips & Windmills.

The delivery follows that of sister ship Viking Dagur in late July. Dagur is also assigned to the same three rivers, and both vessels have 95 staterooms.

Built by Neptun Werft in Rostock, Germany, the 2026-built Rota measures 135 meters, or 443 feet, in length and carries 53 crew. Its interiors use Viking’s Scandinavian-inspired design.

Viking says the vessel’s patented square-profile bow creates room for three full decks, while an asymmetric corridor arrangement accommodates two-room suites. Passenger facilities include the Aquavit Terrace, with seating areas both inside and outdoors.

The planned schedule also includes two seasonal programs: Christmas on the Rhine and Danube Christmas Delights.
