Trafalgar Launches River Cruises on Rhine and Danube
Tour operators are moving onto Europe’s rivers, and Trafalgar’s entry shows how competition is shifting toward culturally guided cruising sold through travel advisors.
Trafalgar has officially entered the river cruise market with inaugural sailings on two ships, the Trafalgar Verity on the Rhine and the Trafalgar Reverie on the Danube.
The company marked the debut with a three-day inaugural sailing aboard the Trafalgar Verity in Amsterdam from April 10-12, hosting more than 100 travel trade partners, members of the media, and Trafalgar team members and executives from around the world. Trafalgar is positioning the move into river cruising as an extension of its established guided travel approach, centered on locally driven, meaningful travel experiences.
Amsterdam kickoff puts the new product in front of the travel trade
The Amsterdam event served as Trafalgar’s public launch for its river cruise offering and an early look at the onboard concept as the company begins selling the new itineraries through travel advisors and other trade channels.
Two 128-guest ships launch on the Rhine and Danube
Trafalgar’s initial river program begins with two three-deck ships, each carrying 128 guests. While the vessels share the same capacity and general layout, they operate in different regions and on different itineraries.
- Rhine program: Trafalgar Verity operates a 10-day itinerary called Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam, sailing between Basel and Amsterdam and combining major city calls with scenic cruising.
- Danube program: Trafalgar Reverie sails the Best of the Danube itinerary between Passau and Budapest, pairing landmark capitals with scenic stretches through the Danube Valley.
- Shared ship profile: Both ships are three-deck river vessels built around a smaller-ship format, with capacity capped at 128 guests per sailing.
Rhine and Danube itineraries, with design cues aimed at curated touring
On the Rhine, the Trafalgar Verity sails the 10-day Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam itinerary between Basel and Amsterdam. Stops include Strasbourg and Cologne, along with cruising through the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine Gorge. Trafalgar describes the ship’s interior styling as drawing on Art Deco influences.
On the Danube, the Trafalgar Reverie sails between Passau and Budapest on the Best of the Danube itinerary. The program features Central European cultural capitals and centers including Vienna and Bratislava, while also incorporating scenic cruising through the Danube Valley.
Pricing and advisor support as sales ramp up
Trafalgar’s starting prices begin at $2,849 per person for the 10-day Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam itinerary and $3,699 per person for the Best of the Danube itinerary.
For travel advisors, Trafalgar has pointed sellers to agents.ttc.com for product details and dedicated sales materials, including selling guides and promotional resources. The company is also offering travel advisor rates with discounts of up to 60 percent.
Executive comments tie the launch to advisor relationships and further growth
Melissa DaSilva, deputy CEO and chief sales officer at TTC Tour Brands, said the river cruise launch builds on Trafalgar’s long-running relationships with travel advisors. “Introducing river cruising is a dream in the making for Trafalgar, shaped by the trust our travel advisor partners have placed in us over the years and their support every step of the way,” DaSilva said.
DaSilva framed the product as an extension of the company’s touring heritage, adding, “We’re bringing our decades of experience crafting guided journeys to Europe’s rivers.” She also signaled that the first two ships are intended as a foundation for a broader buildout: “This is just the beginning, with future expansion already underway.”
Next milestone: a third ship on the Seine in 2027
Beyond the initial Rhine and Danube deployment, Trafalgar said a third ship, Trafalgar Harmonie, is scheduled to debut on the Seine in 2027. The company has also outlined plans to expand its presence in river cruising through 2030.
With Trafalgar Verity and Trafalgar Reverie now operating, the next stated step is the introduction of Trafalgar Harmonie on the Seine in 2027, followed by additional growth plans the company says will continue through the end of the decade.
