Seven Seas Mariner Marks 25 Years as It Begins World Cruise

Delivered from Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire on March 8, 2001, Seven Seas Mariner entered service as the world’s first all-balcony cruise ship.

Seven Seas Mariner has reached its 25th anniversary in service with Regent Seven Seas Cruises, following a refurbishment completed in November 2025. Chantiers de l’Atlantique delivered the ship from its Saint-Nazaire yard in France on March 8, 2001.

The 48,075-gross-ton vessel entered service as the world’s first all-balcony cruise ship, with a private veranda for every accommodation. Regent currently lists capacity at 684 guests.

The ship began its anniversary year with a 154-night world cruise visiting 77 destinations. The refurbishment before it covered the ship’s suites, dining facilities and public spaces and was intended to bring its interiors closer to those of Regent’s Explorer-class ships.

Every suite received new furniture, hardware and lighting during the refurbishment, according to Regent. The largest accommodations also received completely redesigned marble bathrooms, while changes elsewhere included a full renovation of the Pool Grill. The outdoor dining venue gained a wood-fired pizzeria concept with a dedicated pizza menu.

No statement from a Regent executive accompanied the anniversary news.

Seven Seas Mariner’s naming ceremony took place in Los Angeles on May 21, 2001. Carlson Companies hosted the event while it controlled the cruise line, which operated under the Radisson name at the time.

Alaska accounted for most of the ship’s first season, with departures from Vancouver during summer 2001. Its early schedule also included substantially longer sailings: a 26-night South Pacific itinerary departing and returning to San Francisco, followed by a 54-night voyage around South America from Fort Lauderdale later that year.

For summer 2026, the ship is scheduled to operate in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. Caribbean and South America itineraries will follow during the 2026-27 season.
