Scenic Eclipse Brings 200 Passengers to Port of Wilmington

Passengers received limited-edition coins commemorating Delaware’s 250th anniversary after coming ashore, following a welcome by state officials and Enstructure representatives.

About 200 passengers disembarked from the 228-guest Scenic Eclipse at Delaware’s Port of Wilmington on Friday for a visit that included excursions across Delaware and the Philadelphia region. State officials and representatives of port manager Enstructure welcomed the ship’s captain, crew and guests.

The call brought cruise passengers to a port whose cargo operations include containers and perishables. The shore program included visits to Nemours Estate, Longwood Gardens and Historic Philadelphia, followed by an evening gala at Hotel Du Pont.

Delaware Secretary of State Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez said the arrival showed the port’s importance to the state’s economy.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to showcase Delaware’s history, sites, and hospitality to visitors from across the country and world,” Patibanda-Sanchez said.

Eryn Dinyovszky, Enstructure’s executive vice president for the U.S. Mid-Atlantic, joined the welcoming delegation. “This visit highlights the Port of Wilmington’s role in connecting Delaware to the world through both trade and tourism,” Dinyovszky said.

Scenic made its name in European river cruising before expanding into luxury ocean vessels. Its ocean offerings include helicopter experiences and voyages to Antarctica and other destinations worldwide. The company describes its market as “ultra-luxury.”

In Philadelphia, a cruise terminal was built under a multiyear agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line. Cruise arrivals there coincided with the city’s 250th-anniversary celebrations.

Elsewhere in the region, Carnival and Royal Caribbean use the Port of Baltimore, while American Cruise Lines offers Chesapeake Bay itineraries.
