Royal Caribbean Extends Labadee Suspension Through June 2027

Royal Caribbean has extended its suspension of ship calls to Labadee, Haiti, through June 2027, cancelling all planned visits to the private destination during the first half of next year because of safety concerns. The decision extends a pause that had already removed Labadee from the line’s 2026 programs and affects 62 calls originally scheduled for early 2027.

Royal Caribbean has leased Labadee since 1986, and the destination last received significant investment in 2009.

“As we continue to evaluate conditions in Haiti and our ability to deliver the best vacations responsibly, we have decided to extend the suspension of ship calls to Labadee through June 2027,” a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our guests and crew members in mind.”

2027 Caribbean schedules shift to replacement ports

Sailings to Labadee before July 2027 have been removed from Royal Caribbean’s website. The original first-half 2027 schedule included calls by Adventure of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, Odyssey of the Seas, Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas.

Replacement calls vary by ship, sailing date and port availability. Changed itineraries have named substitute destinations including Nassau, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Puerto Plata, Samaná, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Ponce, Grand Cayman and Grand Turk.

Some changes went beyond the Labadee call. Passenger notices for Legend of the Seas sailings also removed Falmouth, Jamaica, on certain February and March 2027 departures, with Mexico or Puerto Rico calls added to those itineraries. Royal Caribbean notices said shore excursions booked for removed calls would be automatically cancelled and refunded.

Labadee staff are being reassigned during the pause

Royal Caribbean said guests affected by the schedule changes are being notified directly. The company also said it has identified positions across its ships and destinations for Labadee team members while calls remain suspended.

“We remain committed to our Labadee team members and are working to ensure they feel informed and supported,” the spokesperson said.

“Our connection to the Labadee community extends far beyond our operations there,” the spokesperson said, adding that Royal Caribbean continues monthly food donations to local communities.

Safety advisory remains in place for Haiti

Labadee occupies a fenced 260-acre peninsula near Cap-Haïtien on Haiti’s northern coast, about six miles northwest of the city. The private call includes beaches, watersports, market areas, a roller coaster and zip-line attractions including Dragon’s Breath Flight Line.

Haiti remains under a U.S. State Department Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory citing crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest and limited health care. The advisory says Haiti has been under a national state of emergency since March 2024, with severe travel restrictions on U.S. government employees and no U.S. commercial flights currently operating to or from Port-au-Prince.
