Hapag-Lloyd Plans Three Art 2 Sea Voyages on Europa 2 in 2027
Europa 2 already carries about 890 original works by international artists, and the Art 2 Sea series has been part of Hapag-Lloyd's program since 2016.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will offer three Art 2 Sea themed voyages aboard the 516-guest Europa 2 in 2027, extending the program across the Indo-Pacific, East Asia and the Mediterranean. Each sailing will focus on a regional art scene, with onboard exhibitions on Deck 9 and shore programming developed with gallery owners, collectors, curators and art specialists.
The series began in 2016. Europa 2 already carries about 890 original works by international artists.
“Each cruise has its own curatorial signature,” Lisa Wilken, head of luxury cruises at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, said. She said the sailings will combine onboard exhibitions, artist discussions and curated shore excursions that give guests “insights and perspectives that go far beyond traditional museum visits.”
Indo-Pacific program adds Indonesia and Western Australia
The first 2027 Art 2 Sea itinerary will sail in the Indo-Pacific, with programming focused on Southeast Asia and Australia. Hosts will include Dr. Lisa Zeitz, editor-in-chief of Weltkunst; Kristian Jarmuschek, gallerist and chief curator of Art Karlsruhe; and Thole Rotermund, an art historian and art dealer.
For that voyage, Europa 2’s Deck 9 gallery will show contemporary work selected by Berlin-based Jarmuschek + Partner. Planned shore elements include Semarang Contemporary Art Gallery on Java, the ARMA Museum & Resort on Bali and a studio visit with Indonesian artist Faisal Habibi, along with programming tied to Indigenous art in Western Australia.
Tokyo-to-Hong Kong cruise carries the first published fare
The second Art 2 Sea cruise will sail from Tokyo to Hong Kong from May 15 to June 2, 2027. The 18-day itinerary will be hosted by collectors Lea and Christian Schwarm, entrepreneur and China analyst Ailin Huang, and Bangkok-based collector and exhibition organizer Desire Feuerle.
The Deck 9 gallery on that voyage will feature work by street and fine art photographer Nina Papiorek, including images from Japan, China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Possible shore excursions include the Kirishima Open Air Museum in Japan, Beijing’s 798 Art Zone and a Shanghai studio visit with artist Guan Xiao.
Hapag-Lloyd listed the Tokyo-to-Hong Kong sailing from €13,820 per person in the Platinum fare, based on double occupancy and cruise only.
Mediterranean sailing returns with Carola Persiehl
The third 2027 Art 2 Sea itinerary will sail in the Mediterranean from Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, to Palma de Mallorca from Aug. 3 to 15. Hamburg gallerist Carola Persiehl will return as host, with a Deck 9 exhibition of contemporary art curated by Galerie Commeter.
Shore options under consideration for the 12-day cruise include Fondation Maeght on the Côte d’Azur, Commanderie de Peyrassol and its sculpture park, and Hauser & Wirth on Menorca. Hapag-Lloyd priced the Mediterranean example from €9,240 per person in the Platinum fare, based on double occupancy and cruise only.
The early-booking discount attached to the two published sample fares is available through Oct. 31, 2026. Hapag-Lloyd did not list dates or pricing for the Indo-Pacific sailing in the announcement.
