Europa 2 to Refresh 250 Suites During 2027 Singapore Drydock

Owner Suites on Europa 2 will receive lighting designed to imitate natural-light patterns, round dining tables and blue textile accents alongside existing beige tones.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has detailed plans to refresh approximately 250 suites aboard Europa 2 during its January 9–23, 2027, drydock in Singapore. The redesign will cover the Veranda, Ocean, Grand Ocean, Penthouse and Owner categories.

The ship’s established interior design and light woodwork will remain, with changes focused on colors, textiles, lighting and furnishings. The project follows an earlier redesign of the vessel’s two Grand Penthouse Suites.

“Therefore, the shipyard stay is less about transformation and more about refinement,” said Lisa Wilken, head of luxury cruises at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. “Many interventions are deliberately subtle, yet their impact will be clearly noticeable.”

New palettes across five suite categories

Veranda Suites, offering 28 square meters of living space, and the 42-square-meter Penthouse Suites will retain a shared design approach. Their current beige palette will give way to mint and muted coral, with wave-shaped patterns drawing on the ship’s maritime surroundings.

The Ocean and Grand Ocean categories, also providing 28 and 42 square meters of living space respectively, will use blue and gray tones with warm brown accents. Carpets will feature flowing patterns inspired by the sea, while furniture will receive new upholstery.

Curtains, bedspreads, sofas, armchairs and benches are among the textiles and upholstered pieces being updated across the suites.

In the top-deck Owner Suites, which have separate living and sleeping areas, new lighting fixtures will be designed to imitate patterns of natural light. Round dining tables will be introduced, while blue accents in the textiles will accompany the existing beige tones.

More than a suite refresh

The suite work forms part of a broader refurbishment that also includes Europa 2’s atrium and piano bar. Specialty restaurants Sakura and Elements are scheduled for visual updates, with additional changes to the dining concept planned for Elements.

Hapag-Lloyd’s wider shipyard program encompasses technical upgrades and maintenance alongside interior changes and developments to the onboard offering.

“We change what can be improved. We invest in what creates new opportunities. And we preserve what makes our ships unique,” said Isolde Susset, managing director of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, when announcing the broader program.

Built by STX France in Saint-Nazaire, the 42,830-gross-ton Europa 2 entered service in 2013. The all-suite, all-balcony vessel accommodates up to 500 guests and operates with approximately 370 crew.

The 400-guest Europa is scheduled for a separate drydock in Bremerhaven in autumn 2027. Its work program is still being finalized. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises plans to release further details about the projects for both vessels in the coming months.

Beyond the Singapore shipyard stay, Europa 2’s spring 2027 season is scheduled to include first-time calls at destinations in Western Australia, Papua New Guinea and Palau.
