Emerald Kaia Sets Sail With Paying Guests Starting April 4, 2026
Emerald’s new yacht highlights the boom in intimate, wellness-focused cruising that reaches smaller harbors, as luxury brands add boutique capacity beyond the Mediterranean.
Emerald Cruises is set to welcome paying guests aboard its newest luxury yacht, Emerald Kaia, when the vessel begins service on April 4, 2026. Delivered earlier this year from Scenic Group’s Halong Shipyard in Vietnam, the 128-guest newbuild will launch with an 11-night sailing in the Eastern Mediterranean before moving into a year of seasonal deployments that includes the Adriatic and a winter program in the Seychelles.
Launch itinerary and early Eastern Mediterranean program
Emerald Kaia’s first revenue cruise is scheduled to depart from Limassol, Cyprus, and conclude in Piraeus, the main port for Athens. The 11-night itinerary includes calls in Cyprus as well as ports in Greece and Turkey.
Ports highlighted for the early-season program include Rhodes, Delos and Nisyros, along with Kusadasi in Turkey, which is used as a gateway for visits to the ancient site of Ephesus.
Adriatic sailings and smaller-port access in summer 2026 and 2027
After the initial Eastern Mediterranean program, Emerald Kaia is expected to operate additional itineraries focused on the Greek Islands and the Adriatic, including a scheduled transit of the Corinth Canal, a narrow Greek waterway typically accessible only to smaller ships.
For the Mediterranean summer seasons in 2026 and 2027, the yacht is set to sail in the Adriatic Sea on a mix of eight- and 15-day cruises planned to operate between Venice, Italy, and Dubrovnik, Croatia. The seasonal deployment is also expected to include sailing along parts of the coastline spanning Italy and destinations including Montenegro, Albania and Croatia, alongside additional Greek Islands cruising during the broader inaugural season.
Winter 2026-27 in the Seychelles, with a safari add-on itinerary
After a short fall deployment that includes the Red Sea, Emerald Kaia is scheduled to reposition to the Indian Ocean in December 2026 for a winter season running through March 2027 in the Seychelles archipelago. The winter program is set to feature voyages ranging from eight to 20 nights, with additional itineraries offered in the Seychelles and East Africa.
One featured itinerary is a 16-day “Safari & Seychelles” journey that combines cruising in the Seychelles with safari experiences in Kenya, including the Masai Mara, Samburu Game Reserve and Lake Nakuru National Park.
Looking further ahead, the yacht is slated to return to the Mediterranean in 2027, with a Caribbean debut planned for the 2027-28 winter season.
Ship size, suites, and what’s new onboard
Emerald Kaia is a 120-meter luxury yacht with a stated capacity of 128 passengers across 64 suites. The ship is described as roughly 20,000 gross tons, making it slightly larger than Emerald Cruises’ earlier oceangoing yachts.
The accommodations include new interconnecting suite configurations aimed at families and groups, and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows. Public areas are designed to expand outdoor lounging and wellness offerings, including a forward observation sun deck at the bow.
- Outdoor viewing space: An observation sun deck at the bow creates a dedicated forward viewing area on the upper decks.
- Wellness expansion: An upgraded wellness area includes salt therapy lounges and a cold plunge pool, alongside spa facilities offering treatments and therapies.
- Water access: A marina platform supports water sports and on-the-water relaxation during appropriate conditions.
Dining venues and the design direction
Dining concepts onboard include La Cucina, a signature restaurant with an open-plan kitchen, as well as the Sole Bar & Bistro adjacent to the Vitality Pool with Mediterranean-inspired menus. For smaller-group dining, Emerald Kaia also features the Night Market Grill, positioned as an intimate venue for up to eight guests.
James Griffiths, Scenic Group’s general manager of ocean operations, said, “Emerald Kaia represents the next evolution of Emerald Yacht Cruises with more space, enhanced wellness, innovative dining concepts and a considered yacht experience.”
Karen Moroney, Scenic Group’s director of project design, said the yacht continues the look and approach established on Emerald Azzurra and Emerald Sakara: “Every detail reflects our desire to create a space that feels both sophisticated and effortlessly welcoming.” The ship’s design also incorporates Australian-inspired artwork and bespoke furnishings by designers including Tom Dixon and Paola Lenti.
Ken Muskat, president of Scenic Group US & LATAM, said, “Every element of Emerald Kaia has been shaped by how our guests want to travel today,” adding that travelers are seeking “longer stays in port” and “more intimate ships” paired with “a sophisticated yet unpretentious onboard environment.” He also said the yacht is built around “purposeful design and itineraries that offer meaningful shore experiences in both renowned and lesser-known harbors.”
How Emerald Kaia fits into Scenic Group’s expansion plans
First announced in April 2024, Emerald Kaia becomes the third oceangoing yacht in Emerald Cruises’ fleet, joining Emerald Azzurra and Emerald Sakara. Two additional sister yachts are already on the schedule: Emerald Raiya is planned to enter service in 2027, followed by Emerald Xara in 2028.
Scenic Group Chairman and founder Glen Moroney linked Emerald Kaia’s arrival to a wider set of fleet milestones: “The launch of the Emerald Kaia and the upcoming inaugural sailing of Emerald Astra in May mark important milestones for Scenic Group as we celebrate 40 years of innovation in travel,” he said. Emerald Astra is set to join the fleet on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers in May 2026 following successful river trials.
Moroney has also emphasized the company’s shipbuilding model: “As the only cruise company that designs, builds, and operates its own ships, this approach allows us to bring innovative concepts to life while ensuring operational excellence.” Scenic Group plans to deliver three new river cruise ships by 2028, and its Scenic Discovery Yachts line is set to debut Scenic Ikon in 2028, featuring exploration tools including helicopters and submarines.
With Emerald Kaia’s debut sailing set for early April 2026, the yacht’s initial year is mapped out across the Eastern Mediterranean, a summer presence in the Adriatic, and a winter season in the Seychelles through March 2027 before returning to the Mediterranean and then moving toward a Caribbean debut in 2027-28.
