Dominican Republic Welcomes 56,330 Cruise Passengers in Late October
Amber Cove in Maimón Bay received six ships, including Caribbean Princess and Mardi Gras, while Mein Schiff 2 brought 2,634 passengers to La Romana on October 30.
The Dominican Republic received 56,330 cruise passengers across 15 ship calls at four terminals during the final week of October, according to Dominican Port Authority figures published by the Ministry of Tourism. Puerto Plata’s two terminals handled 11 of those calls, with the remainder split between Cabo Rojo and La Romana.
Dominican Port Authority executive director Alejandro Campos said port operations were contributing to a projected total of more than three million cruise passengers for 2026. The ministry did not provide an equivalent figure for the same week a year earlier.
Calls span the north coast and southwest
Amber Cove, in Maimón Bay about 15 to 20 minutes west of central Puerto Plata, received six ships: Caribbean Princess, Eurodam, Carnival Vista, Mardi Gras, Carnival Magic and Carnival Celebration. Those visits brought Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line passengers to the terminal, which primarily serves Carnival Corporation brands.
Taino Bay, on Puerto Plata’s waterfront near the historic center, recorded five calls. Its visiting ships included Celebrity Beyond, Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady, Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas and Norwegian Getaway.
In the southwest, Cabo Rojo in Pedernales received three ships: Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Viva and MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia.
La Romana handled the remaining call. Mein Schiff 2 arrived on October 30 with 2,634 passengers.
Three million has been forecast before
Figures from Apordom, the port authority, put annual cruise traffic at 1,103,898 passengers in 2019 and approximately 1.1 million in 2022.
The authority made the same forecast of more than three million cruise passengers for 2025, after recording 394 ship calls during that year’s first four months.
