Disney Dream Makes First Funchal Call During Atlantic Crossing

The 130,000-gross-ton Disney Dream made its first call at Funchal, on Portugal’s Madeira Island, on September 16, 2026. The Disney Cruise Line ship arrived with 2,645 passengers and 1,436 crew members, according to the Administration of the Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM).

The call was part of a 13-night transatlantic repositioning cruise from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale. The voyage concludes the ship’s European summer deployment, which included itineraries in both the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

The crossing also calls at Vigo, Spain, and Lisbon before reaching Port Everglades later in September. From there, Disney Dream will operate Caribbean and Bahamas sailings ranging from three to seven nights.

Ship officers welcomed local authorities and shipping agency representatives aboard for a traditional plaque exchange. APRAM board member Isabel Figueiroa represented the port administration, alongside officials from Funchal’s health authorities, customs and navy. The announcement did not include a statement from a Disney Cruise Line executive.

Funchal is coming off a record year for cruise calls. The port handled 331 calls and 746,257 cruise passengers in 2025, compared with 316 calls and 728,604 passengers the previous year.

Disney Cruise Line’s next scheduled Madeira visit is in May 2027, when Disney Wish will call during a 13-night crossing from Port Canaveral to Barcelona ahead of its first European season. That itinerary also includes Gibraltar and Cartagena, Spain.

Disney Wish will then operate Mediterranean cruises lasting seven to ten nights, departing from ports in Spain and Italy, before moving to Northern Europe in mid-July. Its Southampton departures are scheduled to continue through mid-September.
