Cunard Plans 30 New Cabins for Queen Mary 2 in 2027 Refit
Deck 13, now used as a sun deck, carries most of the planned added inventory, while the ship is currently timed to return to service on May 9, 2027.
Cunard is preparing to add 30 staterooms to Queen Mary 2 during a 2027 refit. Deck plans on the line’s website show new suites and inside cabins across several existing onboard spaces. The increase would lift the 2004-built liner’s double-occupancy capacity from 2,620 passengers by about 2.5 percent.
The added inventory is concentrated on Deck 13 and weighted toward Princess Grill Suites. Cunard has not yet released an official refit announcement detailing the full scope of work.
Deck 13 carries most of the new inventory
On Deck 13, an area now used as a sun deck is shown as new accommodation space with 18 Princess Grill Suites and five inside staterooms. Princess Grill Suites are part of Cunard’s Grills product, with access to the Grills Lounge and Grills Terrace and reserved dining in the Princess Grill restaurant.
Additional changes appear on Decks 6, 8 and 9. The Concierge Lounge on Deck 9 is shown being converted into four inside cabins, while Deck 8 gains a new Penthouse Suite in space adjacent to the ship’s library, where a book store is now located. On Deck 6, part of the Teens and Kids Zone is being replaced by four inside cabins.
The deck plans also show a new sun deck on Deck 14 and the removal of the Boardwalk Cafe from Deck 12.
Capacity addition comes during planned 2027 refit
Queen Mary 2 entered service in 2004 and was built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France for transatlantic crossings. The 1,132-foot vessel remains Cunard’s only ship with regular scheduled New York-Southampton crossings.
The capacity plan comes after similar drydock cabin additions by Royal Caribbean, Silversea, Norwegian, Holland America and Celestyal on older vessels.
Cunard’s website says Queen Mary 2 will receive enhancements before the 2027 summer season. The current timing has the ship entering drydock in late March 2027 and returning to guest service on May 9, 2027.
