Costa Caps Missed-Port Credit at Two Guests Per Cabin
Costa Favolosa will arrive in Trondheim at 9 p.m. October 13 and remain until 11 p.m. the next day, turning a nine-hour call into a 26-hour overnight stay.
Costa’s missed-port credit has an awkward limit: two guests per cabin
Costa Cruises is offering €100 in refundable onboard credit after cancelling two Norwegian port calls, but only for two guests per stateroom. A third guest sharing that cabin would miss the same destinations without receiving the credit. I don’t see why the compensation should stop at the second person.
The cancellations affect Costa Favolosa’s calls at Leknes in the Lofoten Islands on October 13 and Bodo on October 14, 2026. The ship headed south earlier than planned because of forecast strong winds and rough seas.
Captain Valentino Savarese notified passengers on October 12, citing the safety and well-being of guests and crew and thanking them for their cooperation. The revised route substantially extends Trondheim, adds Kristiansand and moves Haugesund forward by a day.
Those are useful changes to the remaining voyage. They still leave passengers without the scheduled Lofoten visit and Bodo stop.
The credit is genuinely refundable
Costa will apply the credit against passengers’ final onboard accounts. It can cover shop purchases, spa treatments, specialty dining and hotel service charges, with any unused balance refunded. The maximum payment is €200 per stateroom.
The refundable part deserves credit. Passengers do not have to find something extra to buy onboard to extract the full value of the offer. I’d much rather see that than compensation whose usefulness depends on another purchase.
Excursions booked through Costa for Leknes and Bodo will also be cancelled automatically and refunded. Those refunds are separate from the onboard credit.
Trondheim gets 26 hours
Costa Favolosa will now arrive in Trondheim at 9 p.m. on October 13 and stay until 11 p.m. the following evening. That replaces the original October 15 call, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., expanding the visit from nine hours to 26.
The additional 17 hours include an overnight. For passengers making new plans, that is a meaningful amount of time to work with.
October 15 becomes a sea day. Haugesund moves to October 16, with a call from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kristiansand takes Haugesund’s former October 17 slot, running from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Replacement shore excursions for Trondheim, Haugesund and Kristiansand were made available onboard beginning on the morning of October 13. The scheduled October 18 sea day remains unchanged, as does the return to Hamburg on October 19. The ship departed Hamburg on October 5 for the 14-night Norwegian voyage and had already visited Bergen, Narvik, Harstad and Hammerfest before the changes were announced.
This is not the first weather disruption in northern Norway this year. In March, worsening conditions led Ambassador Cruise Line to replace Ambition’s entire Northern Lights itinerary.
Costa has provided a revised route, excursion refunds and compensation passengers can actually keep. The unexplained weakness is the cabin cap.
