Celestyal Adds First Western Mediterranean Winter Season

Celestyal Discovery will reposition between Athens and Barcelona, with overnight calls in Lisbon and in Barcelona using Tarragona.

Celestyal will run its first dedicated Western Mediterranean season with new winter sailings aboard Celestyal Discovery, adding a 14-night Spain, Portugal and Morocco itinerary that includes 14 maiden calls. The program begins in winter 2026-27 and expands in winter 2027-28, with the 1,360-guest ship repositioning between Athens and Barcelona.

The move takes the Athens/Piraeus-based, two-ship line beyond the Greek Islands and Eastern Mediterranean program it has focused on for more than a decade. Celestyal is pricing the new 14-night “Mediterranean Odyssey: Spain, Portugal & Morocco” cruise from $1,239, with seven-night segments available from $749.

“The time is now right for us to expand west and bring that same philosophy to a new collection of destinations,” said Lee Haslett, Celestyal’s chief commercial officer.

Discovery deployment adds Barcelona and Lisbon overnights

The new itinerary includes overnight calls in Barcelona, using Tarragona, and Lisbon. “Alongside the overnight stays in Barcelona and Lisbon, we’ve included hidden gems such as Sete and extended time ashore,” Haslett said.

Celestyal Discovery is a 42,289-GT, 2003-built ship that entered service for Celestyal in 2024 after previously sailing as AIDAaura. The vessel is the smaller of Celestyal’s two ships, operating alongside Celestyal Journey.

Western season can be combined with Eastern Mediterranean cruises

For winter 2026-27, Celestyal Discovery is scheduled to leave Athens for Barcelona on Nov. 28, 2026, then operate two “Mediterranean Odyssey” departures before a return repositioning on Jan. 2, 2027. The following winter, the ship is due to reposition from Athens on Nov. 19, 2027, operate six Western Mediterranean voyages, and depart Barcelona for the return sailing on Feb. 19, 2028.

The Western Mediterranean cruises will be paired with eight-night “Mediterranean Riviera” repositioning voyages between Athens and Barcelona, priced from $809. Guests can combine the repositioning cruise with the 14-night Western Mediterranean itinerary for a 22-night sailing, or add Celestyal’s four-night “Iconic Greek Islands” cruise to create a 26-night voyage.

Fares include meals, soft drinks, Wi-Fi, port fees and gratuities. Bookings for both winter seasons opened July 1, 2026.

Eastern Mediterranean schedule extended after Gulf cancellation

Celestyal also confirmed it will extend its Eastern Mediterranean season after canceling its Arabian Gulf program for winter 2026-27. The company did not detail the revised Eastern Mediterranean deployment in the announcement.

Plans for Celestyal Journey in winter 2027-28 have not yet been released. Celestyal said those details will be announced later.
