Carnival Opens Second Pier at Celebration Key as Capacity Reaches Limit

Princess Cruises begins calling next month, with selected AIDA and Costa visits due late 2027, bringing Celebration Key to four brands and 31 ships scheduled in 2027.

Celebration Key Has a Second Pier. Its Shoreside Plan Deserves More Detail

Celebration Key’s second pier is open, but the destination has reached its shoreside capacity under the current development, according to Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein. With three more cruise brands on the way, I’d put the next phase on land at the top of the agenda. Getting more guests there is only part of the job.

Carnival expects the Grand Bahama destination to receive approximately 3.5 million guests in 2027, up from a projected 2.7 million in 2026. That is a substantial increase for a destination already at its shoreside limit.

Princess Cruises will begin calling next month, followed by selected AIDA and Costa visits in late 2027. The additions will take Celebration Key to four brands, with 31 ships scheduled to visit in 2027 compared with 26 in 2026.

Those annual figures do not establish how busy the destination will be on any particular day.

The next phase is still short on detail

Speaking during Carnival’s third-quarter earnings call, Weinstein said the company has room to expand Celebration Key, though it was premature to discuss detailed plans.

“I do hope and expect that we'll be able to talk about what's phase two for Celebration Key,” he said.

The existing destination has a mile-long beach and separate freshwater lagoon areas for families and adults. Paid facilities include the adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club, cabanas and waterslides. Any expansion should be judged on what it adds to that day ashore, including how much additional capacity comes through facilities available without an extra charge.

Weinstein said Celebration Key received almost 2.5 million guests during its first year of operation. “The guest response has been exceptional,” he said.

I’d want the next announcement to explain how Carnival intends to preserve that experience as more ships join the schedule. An attendance target tells us the scale of the ambition. It tells us much less about the beach day.

A bigger commitment across Caribbean itineraries

In 2027, itineraries pairing Celebration Key with RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay will account for 35 percent of Carnival Cruise Line’s Caribbean capacity. Weinstein said marine infrastructure at both destinations is complete, allowing the company to maximize guest throughput.

Carnival Jubilee is already part of that push. The ship made its first Celebration Key call on September 22, 2026, during its inaugural Bahamas itinerary. Its eight-night sailing from Galveston combines Celebration Key and RelaxAway with Nassau. The revised deployment alternates those trips with six-night Western Caribbean cruises.

Carnival projects combined attendance at RelaxAway in the Bahamas and Isla Tropicale in Roatan, Honduras, to rise from 1.9 million guests in 2026 to 2.8 million in 2027, with seven brands calling. Each recently expanded destination has welcomed approximately 250,000 guests.

Across the corporation, the 2027 cruise program was already half booked at the time of the earnings update. Customer deposits reached a third-quarter record of $7.6 billion, approximately $500 million above the prior year, despite flat capacity growth over the coming 12 months.

That booking position provides context for the expansion, not a verdict on Celebration Key’s next phase. The plan for what happens ashore deserves to be as concrete as the schedule of ships arriving.
