American Cruise Lines Adds Fleetwide America250 Programming
The Great United States Cruise is slated to run from Portland, Oregon, to Boston, visiting eighteen states on three ships and including Boston Harbor fireworks on July Fourth.
American Cruise Lines has introduced fleetwide programming for the United States’ 250th anniversary, pairing onboard events with new exterior and crew identifiers across its 21-ship fleet. The “Celebrating 250 Years of America” campaign, first announced in February, features a 52-day Great United States Cruise scheduled to include the July 4, 2026 fireworks over Boston Harbor.
The campaign ties into the national America250 commemoration. American sails U.S.-built and U.S.-flagged ships and riverboats in 35 states.
Game shows, flags and bow logos across the fleet
Onboard programming includes a 250th-themed game show, daily U.S. history trivia, red, white and blue cocktail parties, themed desserts, fireworks and additional shipboard events. American is also issuing collectible pins and other keepsake gifts for guests.
The line is adding a commemorative logo to the bow of its vessels and riverboats and is using large U.S. flags along ship sides on embarkation days. Crew uniforms are also receiving celebratory badges.
Alexa Paolella, spokeswoman for American Cruise Lines, pointed to the company’s 2026 schedule. “This year, we are cruising more domestic waterways than at any other time in our company’s history,” Paolella said, adding that the company plans celebrations with guests sailing “from Alaska to the Florida Keys.”
Extended cruises carry the anniversary program
The Great United States Cruise runs from Portland, Oregon, to Boston, combining Columbia and Snake Rivers, Mississippi River and Grand New England segments. The itinerary visits 18 states on three ships, with transportation and hotel stays between segments included alongside meals, beverages, Wi-Fi, excursions, gratuities and port charges.
American also placed a 36-day Civil War Battlefields Cruise in its 2026 schedule, departing New Orleans on May 5 and ending June 9 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Other domestic milestones on the calendar include American Encore’s Columbia and Snake Rivers launch and American Patriot’s opening of the line’s inaugural Great Lakes season from Buffalo.
Carnival adds a parallel U.S. anniversary program
Carnival Cruise Line has introduced its own America250-related visual program, led by a “From Sea to Shining Sea” bow crest inspired by “America the Beautiful.” Carnival Legend debuted the crest after a 16-day dry dock in Freeport on May 20, 2026, and Carnival Magic became the second ship to carry it after a 35-day dry dock in The Bahamas.
The crest will be added to Carnival’s U.S.-based ships during future dry docks and newbuilds, with Carnival Jubilee and the upcoming Carnival Tropicale keeping the Texas star on their bows. “Carnival is proud to be America’s Cruise Line,” Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said when the crest debuted.
Carnival is also running patriotic guest programming from June 4 to July 4, including trivia, crafts and ship meet-ups timed to Independence Day fireworks on both U.S. coasts.
The Great United States Cruise departs Portland on May 29 and is scheduled to finish in Boston on July 19.
