Royal Caribbean Adds One-Way Asia Cruises on Spectrum for 2027-28
Royal Caribbean is betting that Asia’s cruise rebound will favor flexible fly-cruise trips, using new city-to-city sailings to link major hubs and deepen its long-term China push.
Royal Caribbean has opened sales for Spectrum of the Seas sailings in Asia for the 2027-28 season, with bookings now available through the cruise line’s website.
The newly released program covers 22 destinations across Asia and includes departures from Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong. It also introduces the line’s first one-way itineraries between cities, allowing some cruises to begin or end in Tokyo.
Benjamin Bouldin, president of Royal Caribbean, Greater China, said the deployment aligns with the company’s regional plans: “This new lineup reflects our continued commitment to the China market and our ambition to deliver more diverse and immersive vacations.”
One-way itineraries add new city-to-city options
A key change for the 2027-28 season is the addition of one-way cruising that does not return to the same homeport. Royal Caribbean said guests will be able to either start in Tokyo and finish in another city, or sail into Tokyo to conclude their trip.
Alongside Tokyo, Spectrum of the Seas will continue operating sailings from Shanghai and Hong Kong, giving travelers multiple embarkation points depending on the itinerary length and time of year.
Itinerary range spans weekend sailings to 11-night voyages
Across the season, the itineraries range from three-night getaways to longer voyages of up to 11 nights. The schedule also includes eight- to 10-night cruises sailing from Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong, in addition to shorter weekend departures and holiday-themed sailings.
Seasonal sailings highlight spring bloom and autumn scenery
Royal Caribbean is also building parts of the program around seasonal travel periods in Northeast Asia.
Spring Blossom Journey (May 2027)
In May 2027, Spectrum of the Seas is scheduled to operate a Spring Blossom Journey visiting ports across China, Japan and South Korea during the spring bloom period. The itinerary includes an overnight call for Beijing, using Tianjin as the port.
Autumn Foliage Escape (October 2027)
For October 2027, Autumn Foliage Escape sailings are designed around fall scenery and include calls in South Korea and northern Japan. Stops include Seoul (Incheon) and Sapporo (Muroran), and the season also features eight-night cruises with overnight stays in Osaka and Tokyo.
Short getaways and summer-length options focus on Japan and South Korea
Beyond the longer seasonal voyages, the 2027-28 lineup also includes shorter sailings aimed at weekend travel and mid-length vacations.
- Three- to four-night weekend cruises include Jeju (Seogwipo), with visits highlighting Cheonjiyeon Falls, and calls in Busan with access to local seafood markets.
- Five- to eight-night summer sailings feature destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul (Incheon), Busan and Jeju (Seogwipo).
Hong Kong departures add holiday cruises and Vietnam calls
From Hong Kong, Spectrum of the Seas will operate holiday-themed voyages scheduled around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, pairing onboard celebrations with port visits.
- Thanksgiving: An 11-night cruise that visits ports including Busan, Jeju (Seogwipo), Nagasaki and Kagoshima.
- Christmas: A nine-night sailing scheduled to call in Fukuoka, Busan and Nagasaki.
- New Year’s: A five-night itinerary featuring an overnight visit to Okinawa (Naha), with whale watching and opportunities to spot early cherry blossoms.
Outside the holiday period, Royal Caribbean said the Hong Kong season also expands itinerary options to include Vietnam, with calls such as Hue and Da Nang via Chan May.
Royal Caribbean highlighted May 2027 spring bloom departures, October 2027 autumn foliage itineraries, and holiday sailings timed for late 2027 and early 2028 as key dates in the newly opened 2027-28 Spectrum of the Seas program.
