Princess Cruises Sets Guinness Record for 3,410 Margaritas
The Guinness milestone shows how cruise lines are turning signature cocktails into floating brand campaigns, as onboard beverage sales become a competitive battleground.
Princess Cruises set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title on Feb. 17, 2026, after serving 3,410 margaritas in eight hours aboard Regal Princess while the ship was docked in Cozumel, Mexico.
The tally surpassed the previous record of 2,728 and was certified on board by Guinness World Records during a seven-day Western Caribbean sailing from Galveston, Texas.
How the eight-hour record was verified on Regal Princess
The record attempt was organized as a shipwide push centered on Princess’ 24K Margarita, produced across the ship’s bars and lounges during the eight-hour window. Regal Princess has capacity for 3,560 guests, putting the total close to one margarita per guest over the course of the attempt.
Thomas Bradford, an Official Adjudicator from Guinness World Records, verified the count and presented the certificate during the onboard celebration. “You could feel the celebration in every bar of Regal Princess as Princess Cruises made history with a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for Most Margaritas Sold in 8 Hours,” Bradford said.
The sailing and the scale of the milestone
The record was set during a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise that departed Galveston on Feb. 15, with stops including Cozumel and Roatan. Princess said the ship returned to Galveston on Feb. 22 after the Cozumel celebration.
Compared with the prior benchmark of 2,728, Princess’ verified count of 3,410 exceeded the record by 682 drinks. The earlier record was set on Sept. 15, 2024, at Motel Mexicola restaurant in Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia, during a Mexican Independence Day celebration.
A parallel milestone: more than one million 24K Margaritas sold fleetwide
Princess tied the Cozumel record to a broader sales milestone for the same cocktail. Between Jan. 1, 2025, and Jan. 7, 2026, the cruise line sold 1,038,197 24K Margaritas across the fleet.
Sami Kohen, Princess Cruises Vice President of Food and Beverage, linked both milestones to guest participation. “Celebrating one million 24K Margaritas and making history with a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title” reflected the enthusiasm guests brought to the event, Kohen said, adding that participants “will forever be part of this unforgettable chapter in Princess history.”
What’s in the 24K Margarita
Princess describes the 24K Margarita as its most popular signature cocktail across the fleet. The drink is made with Pantalones Organic Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, and margarita mix, served over ice in a salted-rim glass.
Pantalones partnership and the McConaugheys’ role onboard
The cocktail is tied to Princess Cruises’ fleetwide partnership with Pantalones Organic Tequila, co-founded by Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey and launched in October 2024. Princess said Pantalones is poured across bars throughout the fleet and is offered in Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo expressions.
During the record celebration, the McConaugheys sent a congratulatory video message to Regal Princess recognizing guests and crew for the eight-hour achievement. The record and the fleetwide sales milestone also followed the christening of Princess’ newest ship, Star Princess, where the couple served as godparents and blessed the vessel with a bottle of Pantalones Organic Tequila.
Additional cocktails and where Pantalones appears in the bar program
Princess said it has expanded Pantalones into additional cocktails created in collaboration with Princess Mixologist Rob Floyd, and it has also featured the brand through a roaming Custom Cart concept on deck that delivers personalized cocktail service during voyages.

Henson, Archer Roose Wines by Elizabeth Banks, and a non-alcoholic Sparkling Rosé by Kylie Minogue.
A Galveston footnote in margarita lore
Princess’ record-setting sailing began in Galveston, and one account of margarita history also points to the Texas port city. Some believe the cocktail was invented in 1948 by Santos Cruz at the Balinese Room in Galveston as a tequila-infused twist on the classic sidecar.
With the Guinness record verified and the fleetwide sales milestone logged, Princess said the 24K Margarita will remain a central feature of its bar menus as Regal Princess continues Caribbean itineraries from Galveston and the Pantalones partnership continues to expand through additional onboard offerings.
