Holland America Returns to Acapulco After 17 Years with Eurodam
Eurodam is sailing a 16-night repositioning cruise from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale after its summer season in Alaska and British Columbia.
Holland America Line returned to Acapulco after a 17-year absence when the Signature-class Eurodam made its inaugural call at the Mexican Pacific port. The ship arrived with 2,039 passengers and 874 crew members, according to Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional Acapulco (ASIPONA Acapulco).
The visit follows an increase in the destination’s cruise traffic. Mexican tourism statistics show 13 calls and 17,159 passengers for Acapulco in 2025, up from nine calls and 13,124 passengers in the comparable 2024 figures.
Acapulco’s cruise business is concentrated on port calls rather than passenger embarkation and disembarkation. Since operations resumed following Hurricane Otis, the port has received nearly 100,000 international cruise passengers.
“The arrival of the Eurodam cruise ship is a vote of confidence in Acapulco as a tourist destination,” ASIPONA Acapulco said.
Eurodam is currently sailing a 16-night repositioning cruise from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale after completing its summer season in Alaska and British Columbia. The itinerary includes destinations in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Aruba.
Port officials welcome the ship
ASIPONA Acapulco organized an onboard reception and plaque exchange for the first call, with representatives from several levels of Mexican government attending. Captain Jeroen van Donselaar and other ship officers welcomed the delegation on the bridge.
Those attending included Briseida Rodriguez Bustamante, ASIPONA Acapulco’s operations and engineering manager, and Raymundo Sanchez Lopez, general manager of ports administration. The port authority described the ceremony as an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with Holland America Line.
Acapulco Cruise Port (GPH) coordinated logistics for the visit. The destination’s principal cruise terminal sits on the downtown waterfront opposite Fort San Diego, within walking distance of the Zócalo, cathedral and historic center. Cruise ships normally dock alongside.
Additional calls from Carnival and Norwegian
Holland America’s return follows Carnival Cruise Line’s first Acapulco visit in 15 years. Carnival Legend called in late 2025 on an unscheduled visit after a weather-related itinerary change.
Norwegian Cruise Line also has visits scheduled this year with Norwegian Star and Norwegian Bliss. Carnival Firenze is due to make two additional calls for Carnival Cruise Line, in October and November.
