Hapag-Lloyd Cruises Adds Land Extensions for 2027-29 Sailings

The move reflects a broader luxury cruise shift toward end-to-end travel planning, where time ashore and personalization are becoming as important as the voyage itself.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has introduced new pre- and post-cruise programs for selected voyages operating from fall 2027 through early 2029. The add-on options will be offered across the company's five-ship fleet, including Europa, Europa 2, Hanseatic nature, Hanseatic inspiration and Hanseatic spirit.

The programs give guests a structured way to extend a sailing before embarkation or after disembarkation. Formats range from guided group tours to private hotel stays and fully customized arrangements, with the offering built around destination time beyond the ship rather than changes to the cruise itineraries themselves.

Guided programs target guests who want shared activities in smaller groups. Options include city tours in destinations such as Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, plus cultural excursions, scenic outings and active experiences such as hiking, cycling and kayaking. Accommodation for the guided extensions will be arranged in premium hotels or lodges, depending on the itinerary. The company did not provide a departure-by-departure list of included properties.

Private programs offer a more independent format, with pre-arranged hotel stays, transfers between airports and ships, and flexible itineraries for couples, families or small groups. Those packages handle core logistics while leaving more of the schedule open to guests.

A dedicated concierge team will handle the most customized tier. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises said those arrangements can include private multi-day tours, stopovers and itineraries built around guests' interests, schedules and travel preferences. The rollout applies to both the Europa and Europa 2 as well as the three Hanseatic expedition ships.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is based in Hamburg. Its five-vessel fleet includes Europa, in service since 1999; Europa 2, since 2013; Hanseatic nature and Hanseatic inspiration, both since 2019; and Hanseatic spirit, since 2021.

The company did not include an executive statement with the announcement and has not disclosed pricing for the new extensions.
