EST-Floattech Delivers 520-kWh Battery for Amadeus Aurea
TeamCo Shipyard in Heusden built the 2026 vessel, which entered service in April as the second hybrid ship in the Amadeus River Cruises fleet.
Netherlands-based EST-Floattech said May 10 it has delivered a 520-kWh Octopus Series High Energy battery system for Amadeus Aurea, the second hybrid ship in the Amadeus River Cruises fleet. TeamCo Shipyard in Heusden built the 2026 river vessel. It entered service in April with a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion arrangement.
EST-Floattech said the battery package is designed to cover peak power demand while the ship is sailing, reducing the need to start additional generators and lowering fuel consumption, emissions and noise. The company pointed to quieter operation as an advantage on rural river sections and in areas with tighter emissions rules.
"With the Octopus Series battery system, we enable inland cruise vessels such as Amadeus Aurea to manage energy use more intelligently," said Walter van der Pennen, chief commercial officer at EST-Floattech. He said the project shows how "performance, passenger comfort and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand."
Battery integrated into wider energy package
Werkina Werkendam handled the electrical installation and onboard systems integration for the battery system. The installation is part of a broader energy concept on Amadeus Aurea that also includes high-efficiency engines, exhaust gas after-treatment and heat recovery that reuses heat from the generators.
The Octopus High Energy module is a marine lithium NMC battery product integrated with EST-Floattech's Octopus BMS platform. On Amadeus Aurea, the system has been installed as part of the vessel's hybrid diesel-electric propulsion configuration.
Where Aurea fits in the fleet
Amadeus identifies Amadeus Aurea as its 2026 fleet addition, following Amadeus Amara in 2025.
The line's next named newbuild is Amadeus Mira, listed for 2027. No battery supplier, battery capacity or propulsion package for that ship is named in the fleet listing.
