Disney Destiny Christened at Port Everglades Ahead of Maiden Voyage

The liquefied natural gas-powered ship is the third Wish-class vessel, with four- and five-night Bahamas and Western Caribbean sailings planned.

Disney Cruise Line christened Disney Destiny at Port Everglades on Nov. 10, naming Broadway performer Susan Egan as godmother ahead of the ship’s Nov. 20 maiden voyage. The vessel will begin its inaugural season with four- and five-night sailings from Fort Lauderdale to The Bahamas and Western Caribbean.

The 144,000-gross-ton Disney Destiny is the third Wish-class ship to enter service, following Disney Wish in 2022 and Disney Treasure in 2024.

Christening at Port Everglades

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, said Disney Cruise Line’s vessels “become brand ambassadors that travel the globe.” Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences, credited Disney Cruise Line personnel and Disney Imagineers with spending years developing the ship.

The waterfront christening combined concert staging with drone effects, scenic projections across the ship, a live band and 12 vocalists. A pop-rock arrangement featured music associated with “Hercules,” “The Lion King,” “Frozen,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Black Panther” and other Disney properties.

Egan delivered the traditional blessing before the ceremonial champagne bottle was released. Her Disney roles include voicing Megara in the animated film “Hercules” and originating the role of Belle in the Broadway production of “Beauty and the Beast.”

Port Everglades has served as a year-round Disney Cruise Line homeport since the company opened its Fort Lauderdale terminal in November 2023.

Inside Disney Destiny

The LNG-powered Disney Destiny measures approximately 1,121 feet and spans 15 decks. It accommodates 2,508 guests at double occupancy or as many as 4,116 passengers at maximum capacity, supported by about 1,606 crew members.

Its entertainment and dining program centers on heroes and villains from Disney, Pixar and Marvel stories. The lineup includes a Broadway-style adaptation of “Hercules,” dining experiences based on “The Lion King” and the Marvel Universe, and lounges drawing on Cruella de Vil and Doctor Strange.

The ship also carries a Mickey Mouse-themed water attraction, children’s clubs, character experiences and Disney Cruise Line’s fireworks-at-sea program.

Alongside the ship launch, Disney Cruise Line is working with organizations in Florida and The Bahamas on its “Discover Your Destiny” arts initiative. The classroom program will introduce students to theater and entertainment careers through sessions with the cruise line’s creative professionals.

Fleet expansion continues through 2030

Disney Adventure is scheduled to begin homeport operations in Singapore in March 2026, followed by a fourth Wish-class ship expected in 2027. Disney also plans to introduce a new class of ships in 2029 and begin cruise operations in Japan that year under its agreement with Oriental Land Co.

The line expects 13 ships by late 2030.
