Corazul Charters Buenavista for 2026 Brazil Cruise Launch

Corazul Cruceros and commercial partner R11 Travel have confirmed Buenavista will begin its maiden Brazilian season from Santos on October 23, 2026, two weeks earlier than the previously announced November 6 start. The ship remains docked in Hong Kong for preparations after earlier plans called for a September 20 departure.

Astro Ocean Cruises said the vessel is expected to begin its repositioning voyage to South America soon. No revised departure date was announced.

The launch is set to give Brazil eight homeported cruise ships for the 2026-27 season, up from seven in 2025, following Corazul’s cancellation of an earlier European launch season.

Preparing the ship for Brazil

Astro Ocean confirmed an operating agreement with Global Cruiseline Ltd., which does business as Corazul Cruceros. The company also confirmed that the former Piano Land has been renamed Buenavista for the Brazilian operation. Corazul Chief Operating Officer Camille Appeldoorn said the vessel will operate under a bareboat charter agreement, with BSM serving as ship manager.

The 69,840-gross-ton ship last operated as Piano Land for Astro Ocean Cruises and is being prepared for Corazul’s onboard product. “It’s very Chinese-oriented still, so that all needs to be taken out,” Appeldoorn said.

Corazul personnel are expected to join the vessel during its shipyard stay. Additional work is planned during the repositioning voyage, which is scheduled to include a technical call in Mauritius. Corazul intends to limit the ship’s time in port so it can begin Brazilian operations as soon as possible.

Appeldoorn also discussed the delayed departure from Hong Kong. “We would have departed earlier if we could have, but the signing and the contracting have taken a little bit longer than we expected, which is fine,” he said.

Built by Meyer Werft in 1995 for P&O Cruises as Oriana, the approximately 260-meter Buenavista accommodates 1,806 passengers and about 800 crew. Appeldoorn said the ship offers a variety of public areas and “feels comfortable and relaxed even on maximum occupancy.”

Expanded Brazilian deployment

Buenavista will offer three- to seven-night cruises from Santos and Rio de Janeiro. Its itineraries include Buzios, Balneario Camboriu, Ilhabela, Cabo Frio and Salvador. Weeklong cruises will feature overnight visits to Salvador. Another sailing is scheduled to stop in Copacabana for Rio de Janeiro’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

R11 Travel has also announced additional sailings extending the maiden season through early April 2027. The company said Corazul’s product will include beverages and itineraries designed for the Brazilian market. Corazul has described its onboard concept as centered on entertainment and food and beverage.

“Our project has been in development for approximately two and a half years and has now reached the phase where the strategy needs to come off the paper and win over the Brazilian market,” Appeldoorn said. “We are ready to offer the public of this incredible country a new cruising proposal where Corazul will be your home away from home.”

Brazil prepares for an additional homeported ship

MSC Cruises plans to base Divina, Musica, Seaview, Splendida and Virtuosa in Brazil for 2026-27. Costa Cruises will homeport Diadema and Serena.

Brazil generated more than 783,000 cruise passengers in 2025, an increase of about 1%, according to Cruise Lines International Association data. The wider South American market reached 1.22 million passengers, up 4.4% from 2024.

Brazilian cruises traditionally operate from November through March. Brazil’s tourism minister, Gustavo Feliciano, has said a longer season could add as many as 30,000 berths to the market.

“We need to expand regionalization, strengthening circulation between South American countries,” Feliciano said during the XI Regional Meeting of Cruises and Nautical-River Tourism in Uruguay.

Corazul also plans an inaugural celebration and traditional christening for Buenavista. The timing and other details of the ceremony have not yet been announced.
