Corazul Charters Buenavista for 2026 Brazil Cruise Launch
Buenavista last operated as Piano Land and is due for drydock before a thirty-day repositioning voyage to Santos, including a technical call in Mauritius.
Corazul Cruceros has signed a bareboat charter agreement for the Buenavista and is preparing the ship for a September 20 departure from Hong Kong, Chief Operating Officer Cammile Appeldorn said. The cruise line is tentatively targeting October 23, 2026, for a shakedown sailing from Brazil ahead of its planned three- to seven-night program.
The launch would give Brazil eight homeported cruise ships for the 2026-27 season, up from seven in 2025. It also follows Corazul’s cancellation of an earlier European launch season.
Preparing the ship for Brazil
The 69,840-gross-ton Buenavista is anchored off Hong Kong and is due to enter drydock before beginning a 30-day repositioning voyage to Santos. Corazul personnel will join the vessel during the shipyard stay, while BSM will serve as ship manager.
The ship last operated as Piano Land for Astro Ocean Cruises. “It’s very Chinese-oriented still, so that all needs to be taken out,” Appeldorn said.
Work will continue during the repositioning voyage, which includes a technical call in Mauritius. Corazul intends to limit the ship’s time in port so it can begin Brazilian operations as soon as possible, Appeldorn said.
The executive attributed the schedule to a longer-than-expected contracting process but said the necessary agreements are now in place. Although Corazul’s published plans call for an early-November start, the vessel could reach its homeport in late October and begin carrying guests earlier.
Built by Meyer Werft in 1995, the approximately 260-meter ship accommodates about 1,882 passengers and 800 crew. Corazul plans to operate it from Santos and Rio de Janeiro, with an onboard product centered on entertainment and food and beverage.
“It’s not the hardware; it’s the concept that we’re bringing,” Appeldorn said. Onboard implementation will begin once Corazul’s teams join the vessel.
Brazil prepares for an additional homeported ship
Corazul will enter a Brazilian market dominated by MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises. MSC plans to deploy five ships for 2026-27: Divina, Musica, Seaview, Splendida and Virtuosa. Costa will homeport Diadema and Serena.
Brazil generated more than 783,000 cruise passengers in 2025, an increase of about 1%, according to Cruise Lines International Association data. The wider South American market reached 1.22 million passengers, up 4.4% from 2024.
Brazilian cruises traditionally operate from November through March, but Corazul is considering continuing through April 2027. Brazil’s tourism minister, Gustavo Feliciano, has said the longer season could add as many as 30,000 berths to the market.
“We need to expand regionalization, strengthening circulation between South American countries,” Feliciano said during the XI Regional Meeting of Cruises and Nautical-River Tourism in Uruguay.
Corazul also plans an inaugural celebration and traditional christening for Buenavista. The timing and other details of the ceremony have not yet been announced.
