Coast Guard Airlifts Norwegian Bliss Passenger Off North Carolina

The evacuation took place during an eight-night Bahamas cruise from New York, with Norwegian Bliss continuing its scheduled itinerary after the passenger was brought ashore.

The U.S. Coast Guard airlifted a passenger experiencing a medical emergency from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss approximately 32 miles off Oregon Inlet, North Carolina, on Monday, November 2, 2026. The passenger arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard East District.

The ship was on a sea day off North Carolina’s Outer Banks during an eight-night Bahamas cruise that had departed New York on November 1. Its crew requested the evacuation.

An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City responded to the ship. Video released by the Coast Guard shows rescuers hoisting the passenger from the vessel into a hovering helicopter before transporting the patient ashore for further medical care.

The passenger’s name, age, gender and nationality have not been publicly released. The nature of the medical emergency has not been confirmed, and the Coast Guard’s account did not provide details of the treatment required.

Cruise Hive reported no course change or other itinerary disruption associated with the evacuation. Norwegian Bliss subsequently docked at Port Canaveral on November 4 for its scheduled call.

The remaining itinerary includes Great Stirrup Cay on November 5 and Nassau on November 6. The ship is scheduled to complete the round-trip voyage in New York on November 9.
