Celebrity Summit Marks 25 Years in Celebrity Cruises Fleet
Delivered from Saint-Nazaire on August 31, 2001, the Millennium-class ship began service from Port Everglades on an eleven-night Western Caribbean and Florida cruise.
Celebrity Summit has completed 25 years in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, following its delivery from Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, on Aug. 31, 2001. The third Millennium-class ship entered service from Fort Lauderdale that October and now has deployments scheduled into 2028.
The 91,003-gross-ton, 965-foot vessel is currently listed with occupancy for 2,218, compared with the 1,950-passenger figure cited for its debut. Its operating history has included the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Alaska, Bermuda, Canada, New England and Europe.
Celebrity Cruises did not provide an executive comment.
Early seasons from Port Everglades
After crossing the Atlantic without guests, Celebrity Summit began its inaugural season on Oct. 1, 2001, with an 11-night Western Caribbean and Florida cruise. The roundtrip Port Everglades itinerary called at Key West, Cozumel, Puerto Limón, Colón and Grand Cayman.
The ship continued with 10- and 11-night cruises during its first season. Eastern Caribbean itineraries added ports including St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts and St. Thomas.
Celebrity repositioned the vessel to the West Coast in 2002 for Panama Canal and Hawaii cruises, followed by a summer in Alaska. That general deployment pattern continued until 2008, when Summit began its first Mediterranean season. Bermuda, Canada, New England and the Bahamas followed.
Celebrity Revolution refurbishment
Celebrity Summit underwent a refurbishment in 2019 through Celebrity Revolution, the line’s multiyear modernization program for Millennium- and Solstice-class ships. The program brought design and amenity changes associated with Celebrity’s Edge series to existing vessels.
The Summit project included redesigned staterooms, restaurants, bars and lounges. Celebrity also installed updated bathrooms and storage, refreshed bedding and new design elements in public areas through the broader modernization program.
Since returning to Alaska in 2021, the ship has spent most of its operating time in North America, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
Tampa, Alaska and Iceland ahead
Celebrity Summit is scheduled to operate from Tampa during the 2026-27 winter season, followed by another Alaska deployment in summer 2027.
The ship is then due to return to Europe in 2028 for a two-month Iceland season. Those voyages are scheduled to sail roundtrip from Reykjavik.
