Celebrity Infinity Marks 25 Years as Europe Sailings Continue

Celebrity Infinity’s milestone underscores how seasoned ships still anchor premium cruise growth in Europe, where demand has turned the Mediterranean into a year-round market.

Celebrity Infinity has completed 25 years in service for Celebrity Cruises, a quarter-century after the Millennium-class ship was delivered by Chantiers de l'Atlantique on February 25, 2001. The 2,170-passenger vessel remains active in Europe, where it is scheduled to continue Mediterranean and Aegean sailings through late fall before shifting west for winter itineraries.

Celebrity Infinity became the second ship in the Millennium class. In early 2023, it helped establish Celebrity Cruises' first year-round European operation when it moved to the Mediterranean on a full-time basis.

From Panama Canal debut to year-round Europe

After delivery, Celebrity Infinity crossed the Atlantic to Fort Lauderdale before beginning its maiden passenger voyage on March 3, 2001. That first cruise was a 14-night Panama Canal itinerary calling in the Caribbean and Central America before ending in San Diego.

The ship's inaugural season continued with 10- and 11-night West Coast and Hawaii sailings, followed by a summer deployment in Alaska. Over its 25-year operating history, Celebrity Infinity has sailed a broad program that has included South America, the Caribbean and Northern Europe, in addition to its current Mediterranean deployment.

Built at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, the ship measures 90,940 gross tons and is 294 meters, or 965 feet, long. It carries 997 crew and has 12 decks. Propulsion comes from twin GE gas turbines in a turbo-electric arrangement with azimuthing pods.

Millennium-class context

Celebrity Infinity is one of four Millennium-class ships built for Celebrity Cruises between 1999 and 2002 at Chantiers de l'Atlantique. The class also includes Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Constellation, all of which remain part of the Celebrity Cruises fleet.

The ships were built at roughly 90,000 to 91,000 gross tons and introduced gas turbine propulsion to Celebrity's fleet. Celebrity Infinity's passenger capacity is listed in the 2,170-to-2,604 range depending on occupancy basis, consistent with the broader class profile.

Celebrity Infinity's European deployment continues after drydock

Celebrity Infinity entered drydock earlier this year at Chantier Naval de Marseille for routine maintenance and statutory work. After leaving the yard, the ship encountered a technical issue ahead of an Eastern Mediterranean cruise that had been scheduled to depart Piraeus on February 16, 2026. That sailing was cancelled one day before departure, and the vessel remained alongside at the Greek port for 11 days while repairs were carried out.

Celebrity Infinity is now scheduled to operate a series of Greek Islands and Aegean cruises through late fall. Planned calls include Thessaloniki and Nafplio in Greece, Limassol in Cyprus and Dubrovnik in Croatia.

The ship is scheduled to reposition to Barcelona for winter itineraries to the Canary Islands and the Western Mediterranean. In March 2027, Celebrity Infinity is due back in the Eastern Mediterranean for additional sailings from Piraeus.
