Carnival Panorama Skips Mexican Ports as Hurricane Polo Nears

Carnival notified booked guests a day before embarkation; shore excursions booked through the line for Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan will be fully refunded.

Carnival Cruise Line has canceled Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan calls for Carnival Panorama’s September 26, 2026, departure from Long Beach because of Category 5 Hurricane Polo. The ship will operate its eight-night Mexican Riviera cruise on a revised itinerary.

The change replaces two planned port visits with one stop at Ensenada. Carnival notified booked guests on September 25, ahead of embarkation.

The National Hurricane Center’s 8 p.m. Advisory 22 placed Polo 380 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, with maximum sustained winds of 175 mph. The hurricane was moving west-northwest at 10 mph.

Carnival’s guest advisory said its Fleet Operations Center was helping monitor the storm in the Eastern Pacific. The itinerary adjustment was necessary to “remain a safe distance from the storm,” the line said.

The canceled visits had been scheduled for September 29 and 30, respectively. Under the revised route, Carnival Panorama will spend September 27 at sea before calling at Ensenada on September 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two further sea days will follow.

The ship will then continue to La Paz on October 1 and Cabo San Lucas on October 2, with both calls unchanged from the original schedule.

Guests who purchased shore excursions through Carnival for the canceled destinations will receive full refunds to their onboard accounts. Excursions for the replacement call will be available to book.

The 133,500-gross-ton Vista-class vessel entered service in 2019 after construction at Fincantieri’s Marghera yard in Italy. It accommodates 4,008 passengers at double occupancy and carries approximately 1,450 crew members.

Royal Caribbean International has also altered Navigator of the Seas’ West Coast itinerary because of Polo. That ship departed Long Beach on September 25, 2026, on a revised cruise that dropped Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada and added Puerto Vallarta.

Carnival cautioned that further route changes remain possible as forecasts develop. Carnival Panorama’s return to Long Beach is still scheduled for October 4.
