Azamara Adds 18 Overland Experiences for 2027 Sailings
The format has guests leave the ship in one port and rejoin later, with examples ranging from Bora Bora overwater bungalows to China’s Terracotta Warriors.
Azamara Cruises has announced 18 Overland Experiences for 2027, adding multi-day land programs in seven countries for guests on select sailings. The experiences take passengers away from the ship for overnight touring before they rejoin the voyage at a later point in the itinerary.
The small-group programs can include hotels, transportation, guided tours, some meals and flights when required. The announcement did not include 2027 pricing.
Land programs tied to 2027 sailings
“The Overland Experiences for 2027 invite our guests to venture beyond the port through extraordinary cultural encounters, historic discoveries, and awe-inspiring natural wonders,” said Shandra Stoeterau, director of land product development at Azamara Cruises.
Among the programs Azamara named, guests on the 18-night Pacific Islands Cruise to Oahu, Kauai and Bora Bora, departing January 5, 2027, can book the Bora Bora Overwater Bungalow Escape. The three-day, two-night program includes a stay at Hotel Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts, with overwater bungalow accommodations, direct lagoon access and dining options in French Polynesia.
The Majestic Laos & Vibrant Hanoi program is tied to the 19-night Southeast Asia Cruise to Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong, departing March 14, 2027. The five-day land journey includes Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Hanoi, with programming built around colonial architecture, riverside settings and historic districts.
In China, passengers on the 14-night East Asia Cruise to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, departing April 2, 2027, can add a five-day overland itinerary covering Shanghai, Xi’an and Beijing. Azamara listed the Terracotta Warriors, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven among the sites included in that program.
How the overland format works
Azamara’s Overland Experiences are land journeys taken during a cruise, not pre- or post-cruise extensions. Guests leave the ship in one port, travel inland or onward for one or more nights, and then return to the vessel later in the sailing.
The line’s current program structure can include domestic or international flights where applicable, 4- to 5-star hotel stays, entrance fees, guided touring and meals specified in the itinerary. The 2027 collection is being offered on select departures, with availability limited by program capacity.
Guests can add an Overland Experience when reserving a cruise or later through a travel advisor or Azamara reservations. Azamara recommends early booking for passengers who want to secure space on the 2027 programs.
