Ambassador Cruise Line to Add Shore Power Across Its Fleet
EnerMoves will synchronize Renaissance’s electrical system with shoreside supply, enabling hotel loads such as lighting and refrigeration to run while auxiliary generators are off.
Ambassador Cruise Line has signed an agreement with Italian marine technical-services company EnerMoves SRL to install a shore power connection system aboard Renaissance. The retrofit is scheduled for completion during the ship’s October and November 2027 dry dock, enabling it to draw electricity from shore while berthed.
The operator also plans installations aboard Ambience during its November and December 2027 dry dock and Ambition in autumn 2028. The programme would equip all three ships in Ambassador’s fleet to use onshore electricity supplies. Ambassador gave no executive comment with the announcement.
EnerMoves will handle the retrofit’s technical integration, including synchronising the shipboard electrical system with the shoreside supply and managing the transfer between the two. That process requires coordination with onboard power management, protection systems and safety interlocks.
Once connected, shore electricity can supply hotel loads such as ventilation, lighting, refrigeration and passenger services, allowing auxiliary generators to be shut down. Whether a ship can plug in at a given port will depend on compatible berth infrastructure, including matching voltage and frequency and a suitable physical connection.
Using shore power eliminates local exhaust emissions from auxiliary engines while they are switched off and can reduce noise and vibration. The greenhouse-gas benefit depends on how the shoreside electricity is generated; the equipment does not address emissions while sailing or at berths without a compatible supply.
Ambassador’s ships already have food-waste and sewage-treatment systems, together with selective catalytic reduction technology to meet International Maritime Organization Tier III exhaust-emission requirements.
Renaissance joined the fleet following Ambassador’s January 2025 merger with French operator Compagnie Française de Croisières. It serves the French market in summer and operates Caribbean winter fly-cruises for British, French and Dutch guests. Ambience and Ambition operate adult-only cruises from regional UK ports.
