Amadea Crew Moves 320 Passengers After Linen-Room Fire

Bornholm Police received the alarm at 7:21 in the morning, firefighters extinguished the blaze by 7:31, and Amadea continued its twelve-night itinerary.

Crew aboard Phoenix Reisen’s Amadea moved 320 passengers from one deck to another after a fire broke out in a linen-storage compartment while the ship was berthed in Rønne, Denmark, on September 14, 2026. No passengers or crew members were injured. Bornholm Police received the alarm at 7:21 a.m., and firefighters extinguished the blaze by 7:31 a.m.

Crew assists emergency response

Bornholm Fire Service, the Danish Emergency Management Agency and police responded to the cruise quay, where Amadea was alongside ahead of the day’s scheduled port visit.

“They did a fantastic job evacuating the ship, and they gave us good guidance so we could quickly find our way around on board,” said Emil Gorlov, incident commander with Bornholm Fire Service.

Employees at Rønne Port directed emergency vehicles along the access road to the ship, which was berthed at the outer cruise port. Emergency personnel remained at the terminal while the affected area was inspected, and the scene was cleared by approximately 8:10 a.m.

Amadea continues itinerary

Bornholm Police opened an investigation into the cause of the fire, which occurred in a linen depot within the ship’s laundry facilities. Authorities had not released a cause, and the extent of any damage aboard Amadea had not been confirmed.

The Bahamas-flagged ship departed Rønne and continued its 12-night itinerary. The voyage began in Bremerhaven on September 5 and included calls in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Poland before the incident. Amadea called at Wismar, Germany, the following day and was scheduled to return to Bremerhaven on September 17.

Built in 1991, Amadea measures 192.82 meters in length and 28,856 gross tons, with capacity for up to 624 guests. The vessel is operated by Germany-based Phoenix Reisen.

Phoenix Reisen had not issued a public statement about the incident. Bornholm Police had also not announced when findings from its investigation would be released.
