Acapulco Cruise Port Unveils New Brand Under 24-Year Deal
The new logo references La Quebrada’s cliff divers, with a turquoise color tied to Acapulco Bay, and Emilio Vazquez Villanueva was named general manager.
Acapulco Cruise Port has unveiled a new brand identity after Global Ports Holding and ASIPONA Acapulco signed a 24-year concession agreement covering the operation and development of the Mexican Pacific port. The new logo references the La Quebrada cliff divers, while the turquoise color is tied to Acapulco Bay.
The launch coincided with the appointment of Emilio Vazquez Villanueva as general manager. Representatives from the Government of the State of Guerrero, ASIPONA Acapulco, Global Ports Holding, Acapulco Cruise Port, tourism groups and the local community attended.
“This handover signifies the strong collaboration and partnership between ASIPONA and GPH,” said Mike Maura Jr., regional director, Americas, at Global Ports Holding.
Under the concession, GPH will operate the cruise port and progressively invest in the area. Planned works include modernization of the cruise terminal, passenger-flow improvements, and upgrades tied to operational efficiency and safety.
GPH lists the current cruise facility with one berth, a 406-meter berthing line and a nine-meter quay depth, with published maximum ship dimensions of 333 meters in length and 9.1 meters draught. The cruise operation sits within a multi-purpose port that also handles cargo and tanker activity. Port documents record six cruise calls and 9,318 passengers in the first half of 2024.
Vazquez Villanueva will lead the local GPH team and work with ASIPONA Acapulco, government agencies, cruise lines and community stakeholders on port operations and phased development. Maura said Vazquez’s “extensive experience in port operations, tourism and stakeholder engagement” made him well placed for the role.
Vazquez Villanueva has worked across international trade, economic development, logistics, tourism and port management. He joined ASIPONA Acapulco as commercial manager in 2023 and later served as subsecretary of tourism promotion for the State Government’s Ministry of Tourism.
ASIPONA Acapulco is set to build a new 350-meter cruise pier in parallel with the GPH-led terminal work. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
