Virtuoso has created a new cruise leadership role and appointed industry executive Thatcher Brown as Special Advisor to the Chief Operating Officer, Cruise, saying he will focus on long-range strategy, organizational structure and how the network positions cruise products with partners worldwide.

Brad Bourland, Virtuoso Chief Operating Officer, said the appointment reflects the company’s focus on cruise as a key growth area. “We are pleased to welcome Thatcher back to Virtuoso in this strategic advisory role,” Bourland said, adding that Virtuoso is “shaping a truly global cruise partnership model” by combining Brown’s experience with leadership oversight.

What Brown’s advisory role will cover

Virtuoso said Brown’s responsibilities include strategic planning and “future product positioning,” with an emphasis on strengthening global partnerships. The company said he will work closely with Cory Hagopian, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships, and the broader Global Partnerships team to connect cruise strategy with sales execution and to help define investment priorities for the cruise organization.

Virtuoso also stressed continuity in daily operations, noting that Lori Sheller, Vice President, Global Cruise, will continue leading day-to-day execution of the cruise business.

Brown’s background and return to Virtuoso

Brown previously served at Virtuoso as Senior Vice President, Global Products. Most recently, he held the position of CEO at Crescent Seas before returning to Virtuoso for the newly created advisory assignment.

Virtuoso framed the move as a way to align cruise strategy with execution while keeping operational leadership in place, describing the collaboration among Brown, Hagopian and the partnerships team as a mechanism to maintain current priorities while adding stability and clarity to longer-term planning.

Virtuoso names 178 advisors as 2026 Cruise Icons

Alongside the executive appointment, Virtuoso announced its 2026 class of Virtuoso Cruise Icons, recognizing 178 travel advisors worldwide for standout cruise sales performance. Virtuoso said the designation followed an annual program review that updated benchmarks, resulting in a more selective group.

In a statement, Hagopian said the advisors recognized through Cruise Icons help set the standard for client engagement, partner positioning and broader industry evolution. “This group represents leadership in action, not just results on paper,” he said.

Programming, recognition, and the 2026 AmaWaterways charters in Colombia

Virtuoso said Cruise Icon status includes industry visibility, networking access and invitations to dedicated programming, including an exclusive event during Virtuoso Travel Week designed to recognize Icon-level performance. Among the 2026 opportunities are two charter departures with AmaWaterways on Colombia’s Magdalena River, sailing on Sept. 23, 2026, and Sept. 26, 2026. Virtuoso said both charters are scheduled to operate the same itinerary and will reconvene in Santa Bárbara de Pinto for an offsite networking session.
