Tianjin Port Hosts Azamara Pursuit and The World on Consecutive Days
The World, a 43,188-gross-ton residential vessel with 165 privately owned residences, remained in Tianjin for four days under separate berth and passenger-handling plans.
Tianjin International Cruise Home Port on Dongjiang Peninsula received Azamara Pursuit on Oct. 18 and the residential ship The World on Oct. 19. The consecutive arrivals brought two ships on extended voyages alongside at the same time.
Both vessels were making transit calls. With The World staying for four days, Tianjin Port Group developed separate berth and passenger-handling plans to account for the ships’ different sizes and time in port.
The 30,277-gross-ton Azamara Pursuit arrived with more than 600 guests, including travelers from the United States, Australia and Canada. The ship has capacity for 702 passengers at double occupancy.
An estimated 140 guests were entering China from the 43,188-gross-ton The World. Operated by The World, Residences at Sea, the vessel contains 165 privately owned residences.
Passenger clearance arrangements included officers with foreign-language skills and online arrival-card filing through the Dongjiang border inspection station. Nearly 200 guests had 240-hour temporary entry permits processed through a single on-site procedure intended to shorten clearance times.
For Azamara Pursuit’s arrival, the Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration combined patrols on the water with electronic monitoring around the cruise berth. Its safety plan also adapted in-port services to the vessel’s characteristics and traffic in local waterways.
The Tianjin Port and Navigation Authority worked with transport authorities on approvals for the ship’s multi-port itinerary. Before the call, it also coordinated berthing and passenger arrangements with the cruise line, ship agent and terminal operator.
