Tarragona Cruise Port Opens First Flemingo Duty Free Store
Tarragona’s assortment pairs standard duty-free categories with local products from suppliers, including olive oils, vermouths, wines and nougat.
Tarragona Cruise Port has opened a 130-square-meter Flemingo Duty Free store inside its terminal, giving Global Ports Holding’s Spanish cruise operation the first location in a new retail concept planned for several GPH-managed terminals in Spain. The store is operated through JVFA Spain Travel Retail, a joint venture between Flemingo Duty Free and Altimex S.L. created to develop cruise-terminal retail spaces in the country.
The launch is part of a wider retail partnership between Global Ports Holding and Flemingo Duty Free. Tarragona is forecasting about 155,000 cruise passengers and 79 calls in 2026, after handling 126,348 passengers across 62 calls in 2025.
Retail partnership starts at Tarragona
“The opening of our first store at Tarragona Cruise Port marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Flemingo and our partnership with Global Ports Holding,” said P.K. Thimmayya, Flemingo’s CEO for MEA and Europe.
Thimmayya said Tarragona brings together “a world-class port” and “a rapidly growing cruise market,” adding that Flemingo plans destination-inspired stores combining international brands with local products as the partnership expands across the GPH network.
The Tarragona store carries travel-retail categories including spirits, wines, tobacco, fragrances, cosmetics, confectionery, fashion accessories and souvenirs. Its local assortment includes olive oils, vermouths, wines, nougat and other regional products from local suppliers.
Alba Colet, general manager of Tarragona Cruise Port, said the store followed collaboration between Global Ports Holding, Flemingo Duty Free and the teams involved in preparing the terminal space.
“We are delighted to welcome this new retail concept to Tarragona Cruise Port,” Colet said. She added that the project brings “new opportunities to our terminals” and supports Tarragona’s development as an international cruise destination.
Tarragona’s cruise traffic
Tarragona’s cruise traffic remains well above its 2022 level, when the port handled 64,470 passengers. Passenger volume rose to 115,209 in 2023 and 136,851 in 2024 before easing in 2025; calls slipped from 63 in 2024 to 62 in 2025.
If the 2026 forecast is met, Tarragona would exceed its 2024 passenger total and add 17 calls compared with 2025.
The next stores under the partnership are planned for the cruise terminals at Alicante, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Each location is expected to tailor its offer to the identity and characteristics of the destination.
