Puerto Cisnes to Welcome First Cruise Ship With Silver Cloud Call

The floating-berth terminal, built for ferries and cabotage, links Puerto Cisnes with Quellón, Melinka, Puerto Chacabuco and Puerto Aguirre.

Puerto Cisnes, Chile, is scheduled to receive its first cruise ship in mid-November, when Silversea Cruises’ 260-passenger Silver Cloud calls during a voyage through Patagonia and Antarctica. The visit will add a new destination in Aysén Province to the ship’s southbound itinerary.

Empresa Portuaria Chacabuco, known as Emporcha, says the arrival shows that the floating-berth Puerto Cisnes Connectivity Terminal can handle cruise ships. The port infrastructure was originally developed for regional ferries and cabotage services.

“Nearly a decade of management effort is yielding concrete results,” said Eduardo Vera Wandersleben, president of Emporcha. He said preparations had shown the community was ready to receive a luxury cruise vessel.

Mayor Francisco Roncagliolo Leporati said Puerto Cisnes had invested in infrastructure, including the passenger terminal that will receive the ship. “This infrastructure was designed with the expectation of attracting cruise ships,” he said. He called for the city to be ready to welcome visitors and “boost local commerce, crafts and services.”

The terminal’s existing operations provide passenger and roll-on/roll-off ferry connections between Puerto Cisnes and coastal communities including Quellón, Melinka, Puerto Chacabuco and Puerto Aguirre. Emporcha administers the facility, which serves the wider maritime transport network in Chile’s Aysén Region.

For cruise visitors, Puerto Cisnes will provide access to southern Chilean Patagonia, including the region’s glaciers and wilderness.

Silver Cloud’s call is part of a 20-day sailing from Valparaíso to Puerto Williams, with visits in three countries. The itinerary includes 14 destinations beyond Puerto Cisnes, among them Puerto Montt, Tortel, Punta Arenas and Ushuaia, as well as scenic passages through the Chilean fjords.

The voyage opens the vessel’s 2026–27 Antarctic season. After the Patagonia calls, the ship is scheduled to sail on to Antarctica before the voyage ends.
