Princess Cruises’ Chefs Ahoy Premieres September 30 on Channel 9
Hosted by Australian comedian Peter Helliar, the four-part contest has passengers select winners at The Captain’s Dinner after chefs present signature dishes to crew.
Princess Cruises is launching Chefs Ahoy, a four-part culinary television series premiering September 30 at 8:45 p.m. on Channel 9 and 9Now. Filming took place aboard Sun Princess and Diamond Princess, and the cooking challenges are set in destinations across the Mediterranean and East Asia. The line did not include an executive statement with the announcement.
Australian comedian Peter Helliar hosts the series, which brings together eight chefs for a different head-to-head contest in each episode. Passengers select the winners at The Captain’s Dinner.
The competition combines visits ashore to explore local food culture with cooking in unfamiliar shipboard galleys. Back on board, the chefs prepare signature dishes and present their food to the ship’s crew.
The opening episode takes place in Greece, where Courtney Roulston and Sri Lankan-Australian restaurateur Minoli De Silva explore the food of Crete before competing aboard Sun Princess.
The ship also hosts the third episode, set in Spain. Three Blue Ducks co-founder Mark LaBrooy explores Spanish meat culture in Barcelona, while author Khanh Ong searches the city for inspiration from tapas before their onboard contest.
Diamond Princess provides the setting for the East Asian episodes. In episode two, Miguel Maestre explores Japanese hot springs and premium Wagyu before facing Asian-fusion chef Dan Hong in the galley.
The series concludes in South Korea with social media star Vincent Yeow Lim competing against best-selling author Alice Zaslavsky. The pair explore local flavours before the final cooking contest aboard the ship.
